Really sore boob at 39 weeks!

That's it, really. I will be 39 weeks on sunday. My left boob has suddenly (this morning) become very tender and bruised-feeling, deep down. I can't feel any lumps, there is no redness, swelling or hotness, and there isn't anything coming out of the nipple that shouldn't be (eg, some colostrum but nothing untoward).

I was wearing underwired bras until a few weeks ago, but they were properly fitted (Bravissimo) and I wasn't in discomfort with them. Since then I've been wearing in some soft-cup breastfeeding bras, but they don't seem constricting. My right boob is absolutely fine. Hmm Both have been a little tender round the nipples this last week, which I took to be a good sign that maybe things might be about to kick off, though I don't think I got that last time.

Ideas, anyone? Confused

Ok, I had a look at it and it looks very much like a blocked Montgomery's Tubercule. I don't think I've come across that before, but I'm going to try a hot compress. Last thing I want is a sore boob before I start breastfeeding!

If in doubt, ask your midwife or local BF counsellor to have a look for you. So many boob things out there!

Hope it's better soon.

I know a lot of BFC people (am training myself but very early days) so at least I have a good support group out there! Hot compress doesn't seem to be doing much, but have dabbed TCP on and will try again tomorrow. I normally love to squeeze things but the last thing I want is an abcessed nipple so close to the birth (or indeed, at any other time!) so I'll go carefully and see someone too.

Thanks. Smile
