Aww congratulations! Ive just turned 23 and this is my first. God that sounds old but i still feel 18 lol!
How far gone are you?

natmay27 · 17/12/2010 12:50

Im nearly 23 with my first (17 wks) and Charleney you're right I still feel 18!! Congrats all :) so far only had one dr be a bit mean to me (as only recently got engaged wasnt when I first saw her) she asked me if I was with someone and if I had my own place...when I said yes to both she said 'I suppose thats something then isnt it' !!! I suppose I look young but still!

TinyDiamond · 17/12/2010 14:07

Hi Ladies,

I'm 23 too. I didn't think it was particularly young but maybe we are compared to alot of people having kids later and later these days.

I am 5 weeks with my first and very welcome but unexpected pregnancy. I was told in May that it may be hard for me to conceive as I have PCOS and endometriosis.

Peachplum and Charleney how far along are you?

Charleney · 17/12/2010 14:20

Hello everyone, im 22 weeks today! Had a few complications unfortunately, baby not growing properly :( but keeping my fingers crossed and trying to stay positive! Have another scan next thursday so hopefully things will look up a bit! Hes still kicking like mad! lol.

The consultant i seen was quite shocked that my baby was actually planned.. but then again people still think im about 17 lol! Me and DP still look very young!

Mmmaa · 17/12/2010 17:48

I'm 19 and I'm just gone 16 weeks with my first. It's going well so far, had a few hiccups when telling my mum but now we're fine and she's really supportive so that's good :)

LovelyKatie · 17/12/2010 21:40

Also im a bit worried as i got ran over in feb this year and fractured my pelvis/spine/coccyx broke a rib/fractured shoulder blade broke my arm in two places have a metal plate there now and then to top it all off I caught a vicious skin virus in hospital that was poisoning my blood!!

Firawla · 17/12/2010 21:57

im 24 so not that young anymore but im on my 3rd. natmay that is out of order for the dr to speak to you like that, your hardly a child! i think its good to have them young. good luck to everyone :)

beckie90 · 17/12/2010 22:09

lovely katie mine is 17th of april. god thats some bad injurys hope your ok now.
its not a bad thing to have them young people look down on young people having children, but if your happy and make a good mum what difference does it make if your 18 or 38 :)

Charleney · 17/12/2010 22:55

Thankyou Beckie :) i hope so!
Im due on 21st April :) i cannot wait to meet him!
To be honest if i had my way i would have had a baby alot earlier but DP is too sensible :) lol someone has to keep me grounded i suppose!

Charleney · 17/12/2010 22:56

are working being a bit funny about you being pregnant?

Charleney · 17/12/2010 23:01

Work*

LittlePushka · 17/12/2010 23:28

Hey Girls - Listen, I have looked on at your thread and just wanted to share a thought with you all,..especially after reading LovelyKaties post about being made to feel ashamed. First off i want to say congratulations to every one of you ladies. Having children is THE achievement of my life (and I have done an awful lot!) Secondly, nowing what i know now about having children I would never, ever counsel girls against having children early, not a chance! Smile I think that your energy will help you massively and if you have support around you (just as golden oldies need support),then you will all shine. I was 38 with my first and 40 with my second.

In my opinion, having them young has the MASSIVE advantage above all other things whether for or against, that God willing, you can look forward to spending twenty years longer with your children than us Justified and Ancients!! And that, all of you lovely young mams, is absolutely priceless.Xmas Grin

peachplumpear · 18/12/2010 07:55

Work arn't funny, Just not overally supportive! I'm glad I started this thread, sort of didn't feel like there were any other young mumsnetters...Happy Ive found some! My partners 22, and its funny because lots of his friends already have children, suppose girls are expected to just be a bit older!

OP posts:
beckie90 · 18/12/2010 10:17

peachplumpear, my partners 22 too, none of his friends have babys yet apart from one he used to know and im the 1st out of my friends, but i think they are the only people out off my old school that dont have children, some who was 2 years below me are having there 2nd and stuff, its definately popular to have them younger these days, but you do come across a few older people who seem to judge you. so your thread LITTLEPUSHKA is a relief thankyou :)

Mmmaa · 18/12/2010 14:27

I feel a bit funny about people finding out, especially those at work who I don't work with directly and people I used to know at school etc, but then I just think it's my life so they can think what they want.

I can't wait to find out what I'm having in January, baby is due 1st of June so I'm hoping I will manage to get my exams at uni out of the way first!

Feeling a few little wriggles in there now, won't be long before I'm getting proper kicks I think :o

bananarama05 · 19/12/2010 11:53

Can I add myself??

I'm 24 and expecting my first in June.

I get so annoyed with people asking if it was planned (including to date my boss, my HR lady at work and my partners sister!) as it happens yes it was and don't be so boody rude!

DP is 27, we've been together 5 years, own our own home and my mum was an older mum which was something I wanted to avoid.

Luckily my actual line manager at work has been fab and several of my friends have young children so I'm getting lots of support as well as the funny looks Grin

blueollie · 19/12/2010 16:38

Hey, I'm 23. Just found out I'm preggers - very suprised!
I feel really young, but LittlePushka you made some good points thanks :)

Ladyofthehousespeaking · 19/12/2010 16:47

Hi everyone! Can I jump in too? I'm 10 weeks with my first and I'm 23!
We haven't told anyone yet eek!
Unfortunately I got made redundant yesterday :( so things might get a bit tricky..
Tinydiamod-I have PCOS too Grin how lucky are we? I concieve a month after my diagnosis lol!
I'm so excited for my scan although haven't got a date yet. I'm quite scared as I don't have many symptoms but I am starting to have to undo the buttons on my skinnies haha big hugs to everyone!

xkatyx · 19/12/2010 19:11

Hi ladies,

I was 18 when i fell pregnant with my first, me and my partner had our own house and we were engaged and are now married.

I used to get fed up with the looks/comments but at the end of the day i proved them all wrong, people used to comment on what a good mum i was and it felt great Smile

I am now 27 with my 3rd baby and still get looks exspecially when i say it's our 3rd. all my kids were planned and are happy and well looked after, so when i get funny looks i just remind myself of that.

1Catherine1 · 19/12/2010 21:20

Well I now feel old. It's been happening a lot this week. I am 25 and expecting my first, she was planned and I have had many people ask if it was planned or even worse are the people who assume it wasn't. My mother was a young mum; had her first at 18, I always knew I wanted the same but firstly I wanted to start my career and most importantly I wanted the father to be someone who I saw a future with. Who knew the second would take so long to find.

So, am I too old be included in the young mums club?

Mmmaa · 20/12/2010 11:32

Definately not too old 1Catherine1. Grin
