Coughing so hard it hurts the baby?

Probably a really stupid question, but is it possible to cough so hard that the baby is damaged in any way? I've been coughing really hard, and I mean so hard I was actually retching a little last night, for about three days now. I'm 18 weeks, and feel really guilty every time I set off on another coughing spree!

Nope - worse that happens is they get rocked about a bit, which will feel quite pleasant to them.

Poor you though - hope it's better soon!

but check yourself out at the doctor if you havent already as I have a horrible cough and turned out to be bronchitis so now on antibiotics!

Would be surprised. I keep coughing until I vomit (you have my sympathy), Bump objects more to being "patted" by the DC. It will be cushioned greatly by the amniotic fluid.

In my second pregnancy I had a cough for about 6 weeks and I was coughing so hard I was sick and wet myself at the same time Blush. DD2 doesn't seem to have suffered in any way.

I hope you feel better soon. I am currently 29 weeks and am on my third episode of coughing - the baby just kicks me when I do.

no, you cannot hurt the baby, who is cushioned nicely inside the amniotic fluid and membranes and uterus and your body!!

you will feel awful though Sad

see the docs or see if you can get anythign OTC to help soothe and makes ure it is is not an infection
