Any ideas what i can safely use to get rid of all my mouth ulcers? they are killing me and it hurts to eat, speak, open my mouth! I do suffer with them badly and usually use a steroid cream but have been told that thats unsuitable whilst pregnant. Any ideas? XX

I had loads of mouth ulcers in my last PGcy. I found that eating anything with a trace of tomato was agony. However, I made some potato & leek soup, blended it till it was totally smooth & it was bliss - the only thing that didn't hurt.

MM mouth ulcers are sometimes caused by anaemia- low iron levels in your blood- so id see your gp to get your blood checked! in the meantime bonjela or calgel that you can buy from the chemist is safe to use and will take the sting out of your ulcers- im also a sufferer and thats what im using atm (im 27 weeks pg) HTH

Dentinox is also pretty good.

I have to say, mine got better, nay completely disppeared in both pregnancies. Can you use corsodyl? (dont know if its ok to use but cant believe a mouthwash isnt ok to use).

Totally sympathise Mandymoo.

My friend who is a dentist says that the best thing for mouth ulcers is a good old salt water rinse. I used to get them every month at AF time so I know how miserable they can make you feel. Hope they clear up soon

How far along are you? I had very sensitive gums at about 4 months (not as bad as ulcers, I know) and found that an antibacterial mouthwash really helped.

Mandymoo · 28/09/2005 09:11

Jabberwocky - i am about 9 weeks. X

ei23mummy - Funny you should say that! I had ulcers on my tongue from about 20 weeks and they were really painful (got rid of them though with much determination). My recent blood test showed that I have slight anaemia and was given a course of iron tablets..never thought it could be related - interesting!

jabberwocky · 28/09/2005 16:42

I'd go ahead and try the mouthwash. It may be a little early for it to be pregnancy related so perhaps just a coincidence.
