A quick question about pregnancy tests when you know you're pregnant and just want to check that you still are...

I'm currently about 9 weeks with DC3. I had 2 mcs last year, both between 10-11 weeks. I'm doing pretty well at staying calm and relaxed but, as the 10-11 week stage approaches, I'm getting a bit anxious.

So, my question is this: if I had miscarried, how long would it take for me to get a negative pregnancy test? I'm considering buying a few tests to 'see me through' up to 12 weeks. In addition to worrying about the 10-11 weeks stage, I'm worried about going for the 12 week scan and finding out that I've miscarried (something that I gather happens to a horrible number of women).

Paranoid? Moi? I promise that I'm normally quite sane but my fears are getting the better of me Xmas Blush.

if you speak to your g.p he may refer you to epu for a reassurance scan before your 12 week one because of your history, I had a m/c in march then had a reassurance scan at 8 weeks in july am now 28 + 4!!

Thanks for your response.

I had thought about an early scan but I had a whole host of scans with the last pregnancy, saw the hearbeat twice and still miscarried. I found the repeated trips to EPAU quite stressful. I think that this time I won't be reassured until I'm through the first trimester.

I did that with DS, it was only later I found out on MN that it can take weeks to get a negative test, so it wont really help.

I hope it all goes well for you.

I wouldn't rely on pregnancy tests to see you through. Everyone is different in the time it takes for the hormone to leave your body so is a really unreliable way of 'checking' you're still pregnant. I second what sam26oscar says, see if you can get an early scan for reassurance or if not a private one maybe. If neither of these are options then you have 3 weeks to go until your scan and will have to make them very busy to keep your mind off it! I had a missed miscarriage in July with my 3rd after 2 successful pregnancies. I am now 15 weeks and finally broke when my scan wasn't until 13+ weeks, I booked a scan for 11 weeks as I needed to know. Fingers crossed it all goes well for you, it's such a horrible waiting game!

Thanks, ladies. That was the information I needed to have.

Shall buckle down for the next few weeks and wait for the 12 week scan.

On the plus side, I could throw up over anyone and anything so I'm quite reassured by that. Never been so happy to feel so crap Xmas Grin.

Thanks again.
