A good friend of mine went for her 2nd anti-natal check 2 weeks ago and was told that they could not find a heart beat, she was sent to the hospital the following morning and told that her baby had been dead for a minimum of 6 weeks so she was induces 56 hours later she gave birth.
Why don't pregnant women seem to be seen as regularly as when I had my kids?

Tegan, why shouldn't she be on the maternity ward? She had given birth. Most hospitals are sensitive enough to have women whose babies were stillborn put in a private room. I'd have been more upset if i'd been moved to a general surgery ward. I lost my baby Louis at 35 weeks pg in Oct '03.

I went for my second childs 22 week scan and everything ok.I saw the midwife at 24 weeks and still all ok. Later that week I did not feel any movements and I went to hosp. The baby had died. This was in April this year.

I was induced and gave birth to a daughter.I was treated exceptionally well by hosp and stayed overnight and left next morning. The ordeal was terrifying and it hurt but I had pethadine and gas and air (my 1st child was a planned section)

Also the after care was v good.I have already been told to expect more regular care next time (I am TTC)but as my story shown it can happen quickly. The Post Mortem revealed nothing.

If movements stop you should have it checked asap.I waited three days but was told that made no differance but I will never know.

Chocolatepeanut, so sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter earlier this year. I went to hospital when I woke up one morning and felt something not quite right and the baby not moving. The post-mortem showed Louis had died at the very most a couple of hours earlier... That's hard to deal with too - what if i'd woken up earlier, could i have done anything to prevent it? It was on my other son's 4th birthday. We now also have a 7 month old DD.

Having another child already got me through it.It must be so hard for those who experience this with thier first

Quite right, snail.

I got a nasty stomach virus when I was 13 weeks pregnant w/this one. Although they put me in a private room on the maternity ward, I could still hear newborns crying all night - luckily I'd brought my ear plugs and closed the door.

I'd forgotten what that cry is like - DD is 2.3 now.

Personally I would like to be on a private ward the last thing you want is new mums and their babes talking about their delivery and how beautiful their bbes are when you have nothing to show for the same hadr work

I can't fault my local nhs hospital. My first 2 pregnancies sadly ended in mc and the 3rd time (successful, now have dd 18wks)I was scanned from being 6 weeks preg every 2 weeks up till I was 21 weeks. I can't remember exactly but think I was seem by mw every few weeks. Think this was just my circumstances due to mc.
Friends who have got pregnant since weren't scanned or saw mw initially until 16 weeks . I have heard that the reason being is due to the fact that most mc have happened before 16 weeks .. if you are scanned before and something has gone wrong you need to be admitted etc and its a cost on the nhs but if you are seen at 16 weeks then usually if anything has gone wrong you would have already known..Don't know how true this is.
