Would recommend you continue to take them, I ended up really run down in my first pregnancy. Have kept on with them in this one and feel so much better (37+5)

My mw told me to take them throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding as contain vitamin D which a lot of women are deficient in (either that or she's got shares in pregnacare!!!) Also contain zinc which can help with stretch marks

I've continued to take Pregnacare Plus (1 pill for folic acid and 1 pill for omega, plus these 2 pills contain a whole bunch of other vitamins) and my bloods came back perfect for the first time in 10 years! It seems impossible to ensure that we get all the nutrients necessary. My doc said that vitamin D deficiency is especially common in the UK due to lack of sunlight, so we're better of taking the stuff, unless you find a superb nutritionist! :)

I took them all the way through both pregnancies. I went back to normal multi-vits afterwards.

I might be wrong but I thought that the risk of anaemia went up towards the end of pregnancy so you could still need the extra iron. (feel free to correct me if this is duff information)

Ill carry on taking them then, thanks ladies :-)

I bought in bulk online and carried on taking them while BFing as well, when you need all the support you can get.

Thanks for asking this question OP, I was wondering too as am 14 weeks and still taking the pregnacare plus (2 tablets) and will now continue to do so. They're expensive but I don't mind paying if I think my body and baby are still getting the benefit.

tlise · 10/12/2010 21:35

can you not get them free as part of maternity services? Might be worth checking out. :)

I have been taking pregnacare since I came off the pill at xmas 2006! Shock - am now 22wks with #2 & will continue to take them until I stop bf (unless we decide to try for another! Grin

IMO they are a good multi vit, which, although no substitute for a healthy diet, is still a good backup, especially when you are so much more likely to get run down/have low immunity etc

boots often have them on 3-for-2 offer - just checked & they're doing it right now, so I'm off to stock up!

My midwife told me at booking that they now suggest ladies take a pregnancy multi vitamin throughout pregnancy.

I got mine 3 for 2 in Sainsburys.
