Miscarriage after seing heart beat question?

Hi All,
Had an early scan today and am 7+6. Heartbeat was strong and yoke sack very good.
I had a miscarriage in September and although took great comfort at seeing heartbeat etc I am now concerned about the possibility of losing this one now. I asked the sonographer if there was a chance I could miscarry this one and she said she coulnt answer that but said that everything was looking good.
Can anyone shed any light on if this can happen?

i heard 2% chance of miscarriage after hearing heartbeat :).

fyi my scan was at 7+2. At 12 weeks everything was still a ok. :)

I read a paper (I think there might have been a couple actually) which indicated that as soon as you've seen cardiac contraction, your chances of a live birth jump to 85%. I'm very sorry to hear of your previous lossbut the sonographer is right, the stats are on your side! Best wishes x

I was also given the 2% stat at 6+5.

Hi Emmywoo. Good news on your scan.

There is some infohere on incidence of miscarriage. I believe the chances of mc do drop a lot once you've seen a heartbeat.

I also had a mc in Sept and am now 6+5 so equally anxious. I have my early scan a week on Monday and bricking it til then. However, last time I did see a HB but still lost it but I was bleeding at the time and also measured small for dates. If all looked right size, you have no bleeding etc I'd say chances of it happening again are pretty minimal.

Good luck - I hope we both have sticky beans this time.

unfortunately there are no guarantees, though other posters are quite right that the statistics for miscarriage do fall very significantly after seeing a heartbeat. you don't give any other details (like your age; or what stage your previous miscarriage was at) so there's not much more anyone here can say, except that it's great that you saw the heartbeat and a really positive sign. my own experience - four consecutive miscarriages; the fourth was the only one in which we'd seen a heartbeat, at around the same stage as yours, and i really thought that would mean the pregnancy was progressing. sadly a week later it was gone Sad. but it's highly unusual to have so many miscarriages. if you were measuring exactly right for your dates then that is also a positive sign.
