Can a low lying placenta cause pain?

I've got a scan in 2 weeks to see if my placenta is still low lying as it was at 20 wks.

I had a low lying placenta with my dd but it moved in time for her birth.

This time round I've been getting ALOT of pain and the mw has said it's siatica, however I'm just wondering if there's any chance the pain is due to the placenta still being low.

I assumed it would move again so I haven't really read up on the subject.

Any help........?

ive had placenta praevia twice now (am typing this from my hospital bed as have been admitted because of the pp!) ime, it is not at all painful so i very much doubt your pain is to do with low lying plac. only 1 in 400 cases of low lying plac end up as pp so im sure youll be fine.

I was in pain when I had placenta praevia with ds1- laboured very often but not entirely sure they were connected

Low lying placenta doesn't hurt. That's one of the key features of the problem. It doesn't hurt in the slightest even when you bleed like a stuck pig.

Just to back up what others have said... low-lying placenta/placenta praevia doesn't cause pain. In fact, the main symptom of placenta praevia is usually described as 'painless bleeding'. I was hospitalised for 10 weeks with pp, but had no pain whatsoever... in fact, I felt healthy as anything! Sorry to hear you got a double-whammy Moomin. How unfair! How many weeks are you?

Good luck with your scan, Sweetheart, and I hope the pain clears up soon.

What is the bleeding like in placenta perivia (sorry about the spelling!) I have had bleeding for a week now on & off sometimes bright red sometimes not & to date the baby is fine with a healthy heartbeat. I wonder if this is what I have, I am 11weeks+4. I have no pain what so ever & am very worried what could be causing it???Any help??

jifda your bleeding is definitely not pp as placenta is not established at your stage of pg. a pp bleed is more like a haemorrage (sp?)

is your midwife/gp ok with this bleeding? have u had scan or tests?

yes i have had 2 scans last week & all was okay, they just couldnt explain the bleeding.
