I'm nearly 9 wks pregnant with my 2nd and have had really bad morning sickness vomiting almost every day. With my first I just felt nausous but never physically vomited. My first was a boy... could this be a sign of a girl?

I don't mind what we have as long as it is healthy but like to try and guess :)

I heard that too when i was pregnant with DD, I had really bad morning sickness (all day sickness in fact) for the first 3 months and everyone said it would be a girl and it was, so it was true for me.

faverolles · 03/12/2010 21:11

I wasn't sick at all with ds1, then threw up every day with the next one - turned put to be a girl.
But then I threw up every day with my third, and he was a boy, so I slightly mucked up the theory there!

Kitty81 · 04/12/2010 00:22

I've had such bad hyperemesis sickness that I've been in hospital. I started vomiting at 5wks and stopped about a week ago. At one point it was literally constant... I'm having a boy.

Don't think sickness makes any difference, sorry.

As old wives tales go, my friend (4 boys then 1 girl) swears that there is a vein in the bottom of your eye shaped like a Y which only shows up if you're having a girl. Hmm... I like the old wives tales though, they're nice and bonkers :)

JingleJulezbooBells · 04/12/2010 05:43

Also a hyperemesis sufferer here pg with my 3rd boy! (Sick with all of them!)

shreddiey · 05/12/2010 21:38

I was told "look your nose is very shiny at the bottom" your def having a girl-- i did have a girl but didnt have the heart to say thats a shine from a scar i have is whats on my nose

sam26oscar · 05/12/2010 21:45

my sister had the Y in her eye and she had a girl.. I have so many red veins thru exhaustion i can't tell!!!!! I think i have a y shaped one too but i don't know what i'm having so will be interested to see if anyone else has this vein!! Also not had to shave my legs hardly at all with this pg nor did my sister,i usually have gorilla legs Blush

lilmamma · 06/12/2010 08:24

my nan bless her, said to eat the fat on meat to oil your insides for an easy birth..wtf nan....

BikeRunSki · 06/12/2010 08:33

Hyperemisis here too, boy too.

Diamondback · 06/12/2010 09:45

Everyone keeps telling me I'm defo having a boy as my bump is all out front - but my ultrasound and the 4D scan say otherwise!

giraffeshatewinter · 06/12/2010 17:16

My bump is out front, nausea in the early weeks but no actual vomiting, sheer exhaustion. Am 31 weeks and v curious ... what would the old wives reckon?

DancingThroughLife · 06/12/2010 17:21

I had no sickness and a very forward bump... and a girl.

My friend puked constantly for 5 months and had a boy.

The heartbeat is another old wives' tale, is it that girls are supposed to have faster heart rates? My MW told me it was because the baby (sorry, DD) was turning somersaults, not because 'it' was a girl. She was probably right, but that one turned out to be true Grin

lilly13 · 07/12/2010 19:07

I had no morning sickness and wasn't tired at all. I am having a boy...

hippy3 · 07/12/2010 19:26

i was sick sick sick for the whole of the first 12 weeks, then miraculously after 12 weeks it stopped immediatley.
Turns out im having twin boys... so old wives tale maybe?

beckie90 · 08/12/2010 15:48

ive had every single old wives tale sign for having a girl this time, my 1st was a boy and all way through was fine. however this time ive been ill sickness from even before finding out you name it but scan says boy, so guess its not true and every pregnancy is totaly different, my bump last time was all round though and thats supposed to indicate a girl and he was a boy

buttonmoon78 · 08/12/2010 18:30

I've had 3dcs (2 girls, 1 boy) - no sickness.

I saw a chart of heartbeat records yesterday with a coloured dot for the sex. Boys and girls were mixed around the centre of the averages which was no surprise. What did surprise me is that 99% of the heartbeats at each end of the scale (ie faster or slower than average) were girls.

So that's another sex predicting myth busted...

Janus · 08/12/2010 19:15

i have had 3 girls and currently pregnant with 4th child (don't know sex). All are different with sickness, none with one and two, constant for first 3 months with 3, not much with this one.
BUT have always had a lot less hair on legs with all of them so I'm guessing this is a girl too. That's my definite theory - hair on legs!

MogTheForgetfulCat · 08/12/2010 20:14

I was sick as a dog with this pregnancy (DC3), having had little or no sickness with DS1 and 2... this is DS3! Also have sprawling, untidy bump each time, not neat, all-out-in-front bumps - still all boys Grin.

wheresmytractor · 08/12/2010 21:00

Is dry skin on your face a sign? Its the first thing i noticed and I don't remember it with my 2 boys...

tlise · 10/12/2010 21:42

funnily enough acc to my last mw, less hair means a boy.....the main reason I am convinced its a boy this time, but you have given me hope :D the oracle (FIL) has spoken and said this one will be a girl....the only time he did and I said no it was a boy, I had my daughter, so I am hoping he is right again. And I was all out front with her, as I am with this one (old wives tale call it nelly if its in the belly) and MIL says i am as big as a barrage balloon lol. Although that could be her way of trying to annoy me, she would normally just say I am putting weight on to upset me if she is in that mood, but can't atm lol. With the boys I was later on before I showed.

My mum was sick all 9 months with my sis, but not with me.

DancingThroughLife · 10/12/2010 21:46

Janus, I didn't have to shave my legs for 4 months! There might be something in that theory...

Wheresmytractor, I had really greasy skin and had a DD. But I think we're proving that most of the old wives tales are dubious. Smile
