ok - question but I'm prob panicking!!

you know when people say they go for a scan and the sac or foetus doesn't seem to have developed so they have a D&C - does that mean they have no signs that it has died etc?

I am panicking a bit as I do not feel pg whatsoever (9 weeks) and my first appt with midwife isn't until 4 Oct then I'll have to wait for first scan!!

Dont' have any answers to your questions, just wanted to bump this for you.

(I might visit local Early pg unit with 'unexplained pains' if I were really worried - just to get your mind set at rest.)

I've found, when I've had a m/c, I've had pregnancy symptoms (nausea, exhaustion), and then they've gone away. A few weeks later, I miscarry.

If you're not having pregnancy symptoms, but you've never had pregnancy symptoms (or at least not this pregnancy), then that may just be how your pregnancy is.

As sassy says, you can get an early scan, you could just say you needed a dating scan as you weren't sure of your dates. Or claim to have had abdominal pains or a tiny bit of blood. It's not really wasting time, as keeping you calm and reassured helps both you and the baby.

helsi, I had this earlier in the year when I did have a m/c. I had no bleeding but had still lost the baby.

To be honest, if I knew then what I now know I would have done as sassy has suggested and gone to the EPU complaining of something so they'd scan me.

Oh, Sparkly, once you've had one m/c, you get early scans routinely, in our area at least. It actually reduces the m/c rate, as the mum is reassured and happier.

I don't think early scans do anything to reduce the m/c rate in mums who've never miscarried. I think. There's some evidence that scans aren't necessarily good for babies, so it's not a good idea to have one every week without good cause ...

helsi, generally, I think most people's pregnancies are similar. But some mums have more or less nausea with different pregnancies - might be differences in diet, lifestyle, gender of fetus, who knows?

At any rate, if you're feeling nervous, get a scan. Your local EPAU will sort this out for you.

(As a hopefully-irrelevant sidenote - you don't have to have a D&C under the circumstances you describe, you can give it a bit of time to sort itself out, so to speak. I think that's better for your body.)

so am I right in thining that if something had happened - if I waited long enough then it would get rid of itself? should I presume that if I wait long enough and nothing happens then all is ok?

Sorry I think I must be ok as this is really paranoid isn't it.

HELSI, go to A&E if you can with unexplained pains as suggested. They will book you in for a scan in a day or two to check pregnancy is not in fallopian tubes. Its not prefect but worth a little white lie to put your mind at rest. Im sure many people do it! Just say pains in abdomen and concerned about baby.

it may not sort itself out exactly, but if there is a problem you will start bleeding and/or start getting pains.

If it's just that you're not getting morning sickness - enjoy it!!

Helsi, my friend is pregnant with db3, now 14 weeks. She was very sick with ds1 but had no symptoms at all with ds2 but there he was growing well at her scans and he is perfectly normal! Not all pregnancies are alike. You can easily have symptoms or sickness with one and not another. Try and keep calm if you can and discuss things with your midwife next week.
