Weight gain by 18 weeks

Hi ladies, I am curious how much you have gained by 18 weeks? Does the weight gain slow down at some stage or progressively increases in the 2-3 trimesters?

I have gained no weight during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy (had no morning sickness and was eating normal), however, during the last 5 weeks, I have been gaining a pound per week. If I continue at the same pace, I would end up my pregancy weighing 30 lbs+ more than pre-pregnancy. This sounds scary...

I appreciate you sharing experiences on this matter.

hi lilly I was same until about 15 weeks. I am now 19+6 and have gained about 7lbs. I am expecting this rate to carry on TBH.

From what i've read and when spoken to people, they gain about 2 stone (28lbs I think?) so don't sweat it.

So long as you're eating sensibly and keeping moving you'll be OK. I am currently lying in bed, so ought to practice what I preach! But, I am off colour today.

I am also really hoping to breastfeed - as burning 500 calories a day soubds epic!

I'm now 17+3 and am the opposite - I gained quite a lot of weight in the first 12 weeks (almost 10kg/22pds/1.8st), but since then it has definitively slowed down - all due to feeling really sick in the first trimester and now having gone back to eating (almost) normally!

I can't remember, but I think the weight gain comes in phases; this is my first, so can only quote from what I've read in books/on the internet, but 30pds/~14kg is completely within the acceptable weight gain for a pregnancy.

On the other hand, every pregnancy is different, so I wouldn't pay too much attention to the numbers, they are averages!

I'm 18+3 and have gained 10lbs in total - 4 in the trimester and 1lb a week since then. I read somewhere that this is completely average - especially the 1lb per week in the second trimester. Apparently it should slow down a bit in the third trimester (hopefully!) but I'm on track for at least a 30lb gain - not entirely surprising given how much I'm eating but still not a nice thought. To be honest it worries me a lot, especially as I was already heavier than I would have liked when I got pregnant.

Hi,I just checked this link which pretty much says pretty much the same as my 'What to expect book' and breaks down where the weight goes which makes it feel much more rational and less scary IYKWIM.

So it would seem that around 30 lbs give or take is not out of the bounds of normal. I personally prefer to think of it as 12/13 kg or 2 stones as they are both smaller numbers that freak me out slightly less!

I'm 19 weeks and haven't weighed myself for a couple of weeks but will do so tomorrow morning and report back.

furry, it's a brilliant idea to start thinking about the gains in kilos rather than pounds!

thanks very much for your comments, everyone!

I am 19 weeks and have gained 6 lbs. Gained nothing at all until 14 weeks (very sick), then 6lbs in the 5 weeks since. I'm weighing myself every week because I piled on the weight last time, but I know I wasn't eating sensibly. I'm really happy with my weight gain so far, but if I put on more than 1.5 / 2lbs any week I'll start being careful about treats!
