Hi

I have a nearly8mth ds..and still BF not bottles.

The last two weeks ihave been having period symptom..and i did have my first bleed 4wk ago, but not another yet.

Me and dh have had intercourse once but i paniced and he stopped..but no im really worried iknow its unlikely but cant get it out of my head.

I did a test i had left over last night and couldnt see anything but when i looked at it a bit after i thought i could see a faint2nd line...but cant decide if my eyes were playing tricks on me!

At the time i decided i was imagining things and binned it so cant check again and dont have anymore test until i can get out late

Has anyone been in this situation?

Yes, breastfeeding isn't a good contraceptive, esp after 6m. Did your DH finish?

You get evaporation lines on many tests if you leave them, so that doesn't mean anything. The line needs to be coloured (not grey/silvery) and come up within the time limit to be a positive.

Apparently even exclusive breastfeeding stops working as a contraceptive when you start reducing the number of night feeds. And by 6 months, most people have dropped some night feeds and/or introduced solids.

Did you MW/HV not talk to you about contraception after the birth? I thought they had to. Confused

Lots of MNers are in this situation.

Have a look at this thread and then this one...

My gp talked to me about contraception when i went for my 6wk check..she said ebf has a higher success rate as contraception than the pill..enless the baby is sleeping through the night or your periods have returned.

Not sleeping through unfortunately but i have had one period as i said. So i am aware that i need to be using additional contraception, but me a dh got carried away(me not being interested in anything of that sort for months maybe why)

He didnt finish but was very excited and i would imagine there could have been alot of precum - sorry tmi! Put it this way i was straight to boots the next am to get condoms.
