Hello,
Am desperate for some help - am sick as a dog with a cold - sore throat, blocked rotten nose, headache (have had one for the last 4 weeks!, am 6+2 today).
Don't want to risk painkillers so all good herbal, natural etc remedies welcomed please.
Thanks in advance,

I am currently getting over my rotten cold, what really helped me was to sprinkle karvol on my pillow at night so that I wasn't blocked up at night. The chemist said it was absolutely fine. Also honey and lemon in boiling water really helped my throat. I hope you are feeling better soon Smile

steam inhalations

lemon and ginger tea with honey

hot or cold face cloth over your forehead depending on which feels better for your sore head

a warm bath before bed to ease sore joints

menthol sweets to soothe throat and blocked nose

keep the fluids going and maybe see if you can get a couple of days in bed doing absolutely nothing! hope you feel better soon x

olbas oil! I swear it saved my life a couple of weeks ago. Drop it on you pillow at night and on a cotton hanky for sniffing through the day.

Plenty of fluids, hot orange squash, keep warm and sleep when you can.

Look after yourself :o

There is nothing wrong in taking paracetamol whilst you are pregnant and just because a remedy is herbal or 'natural' it doesn't always make it safe to use whilst pregnant. You don't have to suffer!

paracetamol, followed by the hottest curry you can stand, followed by the hottest bath you feel comfortable with, followed by bed.

hot lemon and honey with lots of ginger in (I like to eat the ginger after I've finished the drink!)
Olbas Oil - I fill a ramekin with water, put a few drops in there & put it on the radiator - keeps the bedroom all nice & smelly during the night
a bath - always good!
plenty of fluids
some spicy food - the Hot & Sour soup from our local Thai restaurant usually clears my nose pretty quickly!
ice-cream is always good for a sore throat too

Steam inhalations and paracetamol - it's best for you if you might have a temperature at all.

Do not take painkillers. This is a very delicate time when baby's vital organs develop. I had a terrible cold around 5-6 weeks, too. I drank lots of hot water with lemon and honey, and had fresh ginger and thai curries all the time. Also, aloe vera (if you can get it fresh from a plant) is great to heal synositise (spelling?). Hope you get better soon!

I made some lemon and ginger cordial yesterday as I've had a sore throat for the last 2 weeks and it's gone now :)

Thank you so much everyone! Brilliant suggestions. Will venture out shortly and stock up on all things spicey/gingery/yummy. :) x

Olbas lozenges (the herbal ones) - work great to ease congestion, sore throat and coughing, and are safe in pregnancy (the only ones). And so effective that even DH has started using them instead of strepsils etc when he has a cold/sore throat. Aside from that, second others' suggestions - loads of hot fluids (herbal teas etc), steam inhalations, paracetamol (you can gargle with soluble paracetamol too), and there is also this saline spray that you can use for your nose (pure water and sea salt) if your nose is terribly congested, forget the name (Sterimar or smth), can get it at boots or any chemist. Sadly when we are pregnant our immune systems are weaker - I seem to be getting colds constantly (never do when not pg)!
