Whats the chances of it happening twice in a row?

Hi, i have a daughter who is 6,..i also fell pregnant in Jan which turned out to be ectopic,...im now pregnant again and was wondering, what are the chances of it happening twice?? Iv only just found out im pregnant so would only be about 3-4 weeks gone.

Any views on this id love to hear,...im really worried im going to have to go through it all again :-(

Pretty slim I'd say. Unless you know you are higher risk for having them (e.g. had PID) then it's about 1% risk each time. I can't get my head around statistics atm but the chances of a 1% risk happening twice in a row are pretty slim!

Of course, there's a roughly 25% chance of miscarriage, so things may not go well with the pregnancy, but it's unlikely you'd have another ectopic.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Sorry to hear about your ectopic. Unfortunately you are at an increased risk of having another ectopic after you have had one. I think normally you have a 1% chance of an ectopic but if you have had one previously your risk rises to 20% - which still means you have an 80% chance that it isn't ectopic! Those statistics can also be affected by how your ectopic was treated and the state of your tube(s)

The good news is that you will be seen early and should be closely monitored. You should get a scan at six weeks for them to check if it is an intra uterine pregnancy. Some EPUs will do serial HCG tests but not all. Some EPUs let you self refer but others will need a referral from your GP so I would get in touch with them as soon as possible.

Hi, thanks for your replys,...with my ectopic i had keyhole surgery but they ended up just looking at my tube and no more was done,...my body dealt with it natutally over about 3 months in the end. Im not sure on the state of my falopian tube now!

I have been to the EPU and had my bloods taken, which showed im only early on in preg which is what i knew. I will be back in tomorrow for my bloods to be taken to compare and check the levels are going up as expected. So fingers crossed really....

I was wondering,...can an internal scan cause MC??

Hi Prettyfull, sorry to hear about your ectopic. It sounds like you are getting good care from your EPU. I had an ectopic before DD (1 yr) and am now 6 weeks with another intrauterine pg. EPU here have been great at reassuring me that as I didn't have surgery on a tube - like you - and had no obvious reason for the original ectopic, then the chances of a healthy pg are really good. No - an internal scan won't cause a miscarriage. Please don't worry about that. Keep us posted and let us know how you get on.

Hey thanks for advise,...nothings def yet but levels have doubled so its looking good! Will have a scan about 6-7 weeks to find out for def :-)

Don't worry about the internal scan- I had a couple with my current pregnancy following an EP in Feb, and all is well. There is no risk.
