should you get paid for bank holidays separately from your Mat leave?

I get v generous mat leave so i know i'm lucky but just not sure if you should get your bank holidays in addition to your maternity leave?

At my work you accrue the bank holidays to take when you mat leave finishes just like annual leave.

Not sure if that's standard though.

I work for one of the biggest companies in the world and get a generous mat package. after lots of checking I found that they do not let you accrue Bank Hols. def check the small print of your mat policy as i believe it is not standard (though should be)

I have to take the bank holidays as leave after my maternity leave so I'll tag them onto the end of the mat leave.

I did try asking if I could have some of them beforehand but payroll weren't having any of it!

At my work I accrue bank hoilidays which rall after the 18th week of maternity - which is when my pay goes down to statuory maternity pay.

I work for the NHS and mat leave policy states that I do not accrue bank holidays on mat leave.

I work for a local authority and I've been told I accrue bank hols that fall in the first 26wks of mat leave and have to tag this accrued leave onto the end of my mat leave with my accrued annual leave. I thought this was standard as I know its new, they didn't do it when I had dd 5yrs ago, no bank hols accrued then. Quite pleased to find out we're getting an extra day now too!

Then you should be paid for them. Fairly sure it's a legal requirement but not many companies know about it. Worth doing a bit of research and letting your HR department know.

I took almost the whole year mat leave and was given the bank hols as extra paid leave, which I took at the beginning of my mat leave IYSWIM. My boss had checked it out and told me that was what I was entitled to.

I'm pretty sure you're legally entitled to all bank holidays when on maternity leave, I know I get mine. Have a look at this as it explains what legal rights you get for this and other situations.

I work in HR, so hope this helps...during your maternity leave you can't be disadvantaged. The law changed a couple of years ago and everyone must have a minimum of 28 days away from work a year. This can be made up of holiday you can book at any time (normally called your contractual holiday) and the bank holidays as well.
So if you get 23 days a year and 8 bank holidays you have 31 days aways from work. During your maternity leave you must have or be paid for at least 28, they don't have to give you the 3 extra but they couldn't just give you the 23 days. I know maternity leaves can cover different holiday years but make sure you get at least 28 days in both. They might give it to you as days you can take when you come back. Now I work for a massive well known company and they just pay the 23 and hope no one notices. I haven't told them I am pregnant yet (6 weeks) but I am going to get mine! Hope some of this makes sense :)

Yes, also normal holidays too that you haven't taken.

Good point, especially if you take hols before mat leave and your mat leave kicks in because you give birth early make sure the holiday gets paid or given back!
