When to wash baby clothes?

When should I wash the baby clothes that I am taking with me for the newborns hospital bag? Just wondered because I am currently 25 weeks and have started getting my 'bag ingredients' ready, but my num said to hold off on washing them for a while because apparently you will be given some idea of how big the baby is going to be nearer the time? If this is right, when do you find out, and is it worth waiting or should I just wash a few of each size anyway. They are only plain white ones that I plan to take immediately and then we have nicer clothes for afterwards. Any info/advice welcome. Smile

I never washed any of DD's baby clothes (until she was sick on them, of course). Never even thought of doing it! [bad mother emoticon]

To be honest I was told I was having a 9lb + baby (can't remeber when sorry) so didn't bother with "newborn" size, just bought "0-3". DD was born a tiddling 6lb 4oz and I had to roll everything up. I would wash a couple of each size and take both with you. oooh I am getting all broody now, best of luck !

I never washed anything either Blush . remember to take a really old babygrow to first put them in as they are bound to be sick/poo all over it! they are all scrawny to begin with so newborn will probably be ok. i was never given an idea of sizes but things may have changed these days

Thats what I was thinking. When do you get told what size they think it is?

P.S - 'mum' - not 'num'. Smile

pinkhebe - i havn't got any old babygrows but have just bought a bumper pack of white ones, not spent a lot on those things for the reasons mentioned! So many things to think about, heads gets sore just thinking about it all! Confused I read something every day that I didn't realise before! x

I think I was around 36 weeks.

pinkhebe DD was sick for the first time a 4 months when I tried to give her formula, I must be lucky.

I've never been told what size they think the baby's going to be. All estimates are wildly inaccurate, late scans can also be so.

girlafraid · 24/11/2010 15:40

They kept telling me mine was a big baby and he was 6lb10

If they're just cheapy white ones I'd take a couple of newborn plus a couple 0-3. We ended up buying quite a lot of newborn size as 0-3 was really too big and he was sick so many times a day!

I dont know yet but my mum was told I was going to ne tiny and I was 8lb 9oz and heard they are very inaccurate with sizes!

Can you do one of each?
