Craving chemical smells!

Is anyone else going crazy over the smell of cleaning products and chemical smells? I am 30 weeks pregnant and my OH thinks I've gone mad. I have just put a dishwasher cleaner through even though I only did it a few days ago - just because it smells so good. Hope it's not dangerous...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yes - me! I am 39 weeks and have had similar cravings for most of this pregnancy (and was same with first baby) Mad isn't it. We used to have a cleaner come in to our office and clean around us whilst we worked and I couln't get enough of the lemon spray she used!

Had a need to smell for 2 stroke engine oil Hmm. DH took me to a motorcross race and it was brilliant. Grin

Not cleaning products but more earthy smells - e.g concrete and musty books.

GlitteryBalls · 24/11/2010 15:22

Can't resist the smell of the big fat permanent marker that's on my desk at work! Most other chemical smells make me feel dizzy and sick though - particularly petrol!

caramellokoalalover · 24/11/2010 15:27

Mmmmmm.....petrol...paint...wood shavings...electrical burning smells...I linger past service stations, building sites and hardware stores at the moment Blush

Ooh me too in fact have gone through three bottles of bleach in the last few weeks I cant get enough of the smell of it - am quite sure I could drink it if it wasn't poisonous!! Highlight of my day is bleaching the kitchen surfaces and the bathroom - however have managed to ruin a number of jumpers as bump is too big and now have many with nice bleach stains on!

chloesbaby · 24/11/2010 15:42

My thing is listerine! I have to go and have a few swills a day at the moment (36wks). The chemically strong flavour is just sooo addictive for some reason Blush

Definitely agree on wood shavings too. Why does this happen - it's mental!

LOL. My best friend was uncontrollable in the cleaning aisle of tescos. Your post just took me back 11 years!

She was fine and so was baby!

OnceandFutureQueen · 24/11/2010 22:16

Oh yes! Washing up liquid and bleach are currently so bloody appealing! Just in the process of cleaning the kitchen and loving it!

AlpinePony · 25/11/2010 06:59

When I was about 5 weeks a friend's horse got an injury. She was rubbing an antiseptic cream on to his leg - I wanted to lick her hands it smelled so good! Blush

LadyGoneGaga · 25/11/2010 07:06

I had that too - in later stages. I wondered if it was to do with nesting and wanting everything to be clean?

Redheadgal · 25/11/2010 07:48

We're having our house renovated atm and I love the smell of the building works. Something about old plaster and concrete...

lilmamma · 25/11/2010 08:46

I loved the smell of petrol and turps,we had workmen in work and i walked in the room and it was heaven the smell of turps,i was like a mad woman running round to find the smell and it was the workmans cloth with turps on,so i pinched the raggy cloth and put it in my pocket, and kept taking it out during the day to sniff....daughter was born fine, funny thing she likes the smell aswell..

Amberc · 25/11/2010 09:22

Couldn't get enough of the de-icer I was spraying on my windscreen this morning. Sniff! Hmmmmm.....

wintersnow · 25/11/2010 15:54

sh77 and Redheadgal I am just the same!!! Musty & dusty smells, damp towels, damp sand, plaster dust, mmmmmm! I've been sticking my head in the cupboard under the stairs regularly, also have to walk past a building site en route to DD's school and must say I walk past as slowly as possible savouring the smells, DH thinks it's hilarious!

Chloejp91 · 01/12/2010 02:36

I love damp smells. Damp towels, concrete, earth, wet stones/pebbles.. Mmmmm love it. And musty books!
Also oddly stale cigarette smokeon clothing even though I don't smoke or anyone around me, but when i come across the smell I inhale like there's no tomorrow!
