Very worried and 2 week wait for news

Hi All,

I wish i was joining this board on a happier note but i am really worried and needed to air my worries.

3 weeks ago i did a pregnancy test that was negative and the next day i started bleeding so assumed it was my period. 2 weeks later i was still bleeding and decided to go to the docs as i had never had a period like before. The night before my doc appointment on a whim i decided to do a pg test as my boobs were a bit sore, it was positive, totally shocked excited etc.. but then very quickly really worried as i had been bleeding for two weeks. The doctor sent me straight to the epu where they scanned me but couldn't see anything, they said it was either very early or i had miscarried. They sent me for blood test to check my hcg levels and they went from 620 on wed to 1200 on friday so i started to panic less and be a bit more convinced that things may work out ok.

The epu asked me to do one more blood test which i did on mon and it came back today with levels of 1500 which after 3 days is not good and they asked me to come straight in for another scan as i believe this is a sign of eptopic preg. I went for the scan which confirmed it wasn't eptopic and there was a egg sack and pole (think they are the right terms)and that it is a very early pregnancy. They have asked me to come back in two weeks to be rescanned and don't want me to have any more blood tests.

I am sooooo worried about the blood levels not rising anywhere near what they should have and i now have to wait 2 whole weeks before i get any more news. I am still bleeding and despite plenty of pregnancy symptoms just don't feel optimistic now. Has anyone had anything like this?

I'm sure someone will be along in a min with more practical experience of this kind of thing. I just wanted to say I'm so sorry you are going through this horrible time. You must be on such a rollercoaster, and it is so cruel just having to wait to know the full story. I hope you have lots of support around you. Look after yourself, lots of treats. I had a missed MC at 9 weeks. I stared to have bleeding and cramping so went for a scan. Baby measured 2 weeks behind and there was no heart beat. They asked me to come back after 2 weeks. I already knew it was over and in the meantime had my HCG levels checked which showed a decline, so that confirmed it. The pregnancy symptoms continued for many weeks afterwards.

Your case sounds less straightforward given that ectopic has been ruled out but HCG didn't double. However, I have read many stories of women with slow rising HCG whose pregnancies progress just fine.

Also, bleeding can be very normal.

You do have some hope - hang in there as hard as it is.

Did they tell from scan how many weeks baby was measuring?

they said about 4-5 weeks which is very early i know and would mean i concieved the day i started bleeding - so much for mid cycle being most fertile time.

Bless you, that sounds like an awful thing to go through. I hope it all works out and try not to worry (although its hard) until your next scan.

I found out I was pregnant about 3 weeks ago but started bleeding last Wednesday and its been non stop. Went to my family planning clinic on Monday night and she believed I lost the baby even though pregnancy tests I have done have all come out positive (hormone still in system). The bleeding has subsided a little. I have lost many of the symptoms I had during the first 3-4 weeks so believe I have lost it. If you still have the symptoms then there is definitely still hope for you. My partner still believes I am pregnant - wishful thinking on his behalf I think!

I have been doing some research on the web to do with miscarriage as I was told by one doctor that it was a definite miscarriage and to expect to start bleeding in 2-3 days (that was 3 weeks ago, still no bleeding) and by another that everything was fine and normal.....

Anyway, in my research I have found on a number of Obstetric sites (US, English, Australian) that hormone levels vary significantly between women, some are very high, some very low, and as long as there is a steady increase (even if small) then it doesn't mean a misscarriage.

It seems that many doctors and midwives expect you to follow a textbook when pregnant but the research in this area shows that we don't.

So my advice is relax, don't worry about the hormone levels and never volunteer for a d&c - let nature take it's course. There are so many documented case studies of women told there is no fetus on a scan or are told it's a definite misscarriage only to show a healthly baby at 12 weeks.

Thanks for all your support, as you can imagine i have also read tons on the internet - god damn internet - and agree there is lots of conflicting stuff out there.

Hoping the next 2 weeks go quickly and are all better than today - far too may tears for one day!

Hi yes still here and no nothing has changed! I will keep posting cos it strangely helps. Still got v sore boobs and i could fall asleep stood up so i'm hoping that is a good sign and not just all in my head!

Well hoping for the best for you...saw the sad face and it got me worried. Look after yourself...

I bled initially when I was pregnant with Ds1, right from when he was first conceived. In fact I had no idea I was pg as I had bad period type pains as well. I thought I was having a very long period, as my cycle was messed up anyway. I ended up bleeding on and off throughout the pregnancy but DS was born fine.

Thanks sleepysox, i too think i have bleed from conception and glad to hear it all worked out for you. Feeling a bit more positive today and going away for the weekend so hopefully that will take my mind off things.

scan on tuesday, the 2 weeks has actually gone pretty fast and I have been quite optimistic since my original post - starting to get nervous again now though!
