If the pain is not managable then head back.

Good luck!!!

I'd call up and explain you can't cope. My CMW said always to go in if you can't cope with the pain. And my NCT group leader said that pethidine could actually be brilliant early on if you're getting exhausted but aren't very dilated, as it'll give you a chance to sleep and even if you're not much further on when you wake, at least you'll be rested.

Hi, i was told to stay at home til mine were 2 mins apart or waters went too, but i was in agony (with my 5th). In the end the pain got to much and i begged my husband to not ring the midwife again and just take me to the hospital. We got there and i couldn't walk by then, had to be taken in by a wheelchair. Just got through the door of a delivery room and husband went to park the car (he'd abandoned in a disabled bay) midwife told him he'd be fine to as she thought i'd have a while to go, took my jeans of and babys head was already crowning, so husband missed the birth Sad.
With this baby, due in 4 weeks my husbands just going to take me when the pain gets to much and i'll fib if i have to about how far apart contractions are as i don't want a home birth !
If pain gets to much, i'd go in again, at least maybe you could have gas and air. It's horrible feeling so sleepy but in so much pain, remember it well.
Exciting though as hopefully baby will be with you soon, take care, hope things start to move along x

They took me in with my first when contractions where 5 mins part but I was 3cm dilated and they gave me pethdine to help me sleep. It seems like this is going to long and painful..... :(

Oh Sad, have you considered a water birth, i had one with my 4th and the pain relief really helped, was best labour and birth yet. May not be for you but if you think it might then maybe worth asking if a pool is free ? Our hospital only has 2 but the suites are really nice. I think being in the water helped my contractions become a bit stronger too as that was my shortest labour yet. In the other labours i was never allowed to just rest, even though i was shattered, i was told to keep moving, walking as much as poss to keep labour going. The water idea was a thought anyway.
Best of luck with everything x

You can't usually use a pool before 4cm as before labour is established it may slow things down.

Thank you, mw told me to have a bath to help with the pain, problem is I cant even get in and out of it...lol. I will see if my contractions get closer together like 3mins then Im heading in. While I was there a woman came in in alot of pain contractions must of been 1 or 2 mins apart the mw looked and the baby was on its way, I dont want to wait till then coz she was on her hands and knees crawling coz of the pain... :(

Ooh Bella, just been on your other thread and seen that things are starting. Good luck! As this isn't your first child things might happen much more quickly this time. Hope the hospital isn't too far. As someone said above, if the pain gets too much then get back in there and insist that you need to stay. Let us know how you get on. x

Hi all, yet again asleepless nite, contractions still about 5 mins apart but feel stronger as it was enought to be on hands and knees and they last longer. Have alot of pressure down below, called hospital they told me to come in again but they may send me home again which i dont want, i want it over with i can deal with the pain and sleepless its all starting to get to me now. :(

I had a similar thing and sorry to say it went on for 3 days like that before I went into hospital. Defo ring back though if not coping with the pain as they gave me cocodomol and it really helped. It also made me drowsy so it knocked me out giving me chance to sleep.

I tried the pool but you have to be properly in labour for that (I know! You feel as if you are but it's just the latent stage. I wanted to smack the midwife that told me I wasn't in labour)It can slow things down if you get in too early but baths can help too and whilst it probably won't do any good on your back, fill the bath to the top and go in on all fours so your bump is submerged.

Good luch. It is horrible and frustrating when you don't get anywhere - you have my full sympathies but God it'll be worth it in the end!!
