Affordable, warm maternity coat

Hello,

I am finding it really hard to find an affordable (around the £35/40 mark), winter coat that looks like it will cope with the cold. I've tried M&S, Debenhams, DP and many more. I don't really want a 'military' style one, which is the only style that seems to be around. Anyone got any suggestions?

they are the proverbial hens teeth.

I like this at ASOS however I'm an 18 and it only goes up to a 16. It' is over your budget though, but about the cheapest wearable kind of nice looking maternity coat I've come across.

I tried a cape from ASOS but it didn't look all that on (they only had kakhi available) and DD thought I was dressing up for halloween Shock

That is nice, but I don't want to spend loads on something I'll only wear for a few months. I may have to bite the bullet if I can't find anything soon though - my old coat won't do up anymore and it's cold!

I got this one in grey from New Look www.newlook.com/shop/womens/maternity/double-breasted-swingcoat_197374201 I cost £30.00 as it was missing 2 buttons. I didn't like the buttons anyway so replaced them all which has much improved the look of the coat! It has certainly kept me warm since the temperature has dipped.

Thanks, (but) I'm size 12 and they're sold out :-( Actually, just spotted a Red Herring one on eBay cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190421736403&var#ht_897wt_905. At the top end of my price range really, but I think needs must. Thanks for the New Look suggestion though - didn't realise they did maternity stuff, so good to know :-)

I got this one form jojoj - it is a bit more than you are looking to spend but is pretty warm, and not very "maternity", I am wearing it now (only tiny bump!) so can see me getting some use out of it afterwards (although has room to grow, it's quite cleverly cut). www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/sp+Winter-Maternity-Coats-Jackets-Grey-Herringbone-Bouclé-Jacket+B4131

I've borrowed one of my mum's old winter coats, as hers are a few clothes sizes up from what I normally wear, and it's doing the job - you could see if any friends/relatives might be able to lend you an old coat in a bigger size?

I got a lovely Jojo mamanbebe coat from ebay for £35. £70 in the shop!

CaringForPod · 17/11/2010 13:43

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think it's going to be an eBay job, although that JoJo one does look nice...

I was going to suggest new look too, they do some lovely coats, I actually went for a plus size one from their inspire range as i wanted a bit more room for jumpers as well as bump. Very happy and it cost about £30 i think.

I found a lovely black maternity coat in H&M - I think it was about £50, but it is a really lovely style that would be absolutely fine with or without the bump, so I'm fully intending to use it after the baby is born.

I got a gorgeous black military style coat in George. Only £18, not strictly maternity but got a larger size. Its so warm and has kept me dry during all this horrid rain we've been having Smile
