6 weeks and feeling twinges in one side

I have felt a dull ache, not a pain though, since BFP last week. It's always there but sometimes eases right off. It's on my right side in the abdomen, just like a mild period ache but less annoying. Also had some brown bleeding for 24 hours but did another test a couple of days ago and it was positive. I phoned the docs and they put me onto an early pregnancy nurse who told me to take painkillers, which made the ache go. But it's back now. Should I ask for an early scan? Has anoyone else had this? It's my first pregnancy.

I would definitely ring the early pregnancy unit again and try to get an early scan. Make sure you tell them about the brown bleeding. Most units don't seem to scan until 7 weeks now although some will do from 6 weeks.

In the meantime if the pain gets worse or you have shoulder tip pain or changes to bowel movements then please get yourself straight to hospital.

Hopefully bean will be fine and the ache is everything starting to stretch and grow. Good luck Smile

Hi AppleyEverAfter,

Just to let you know I had this and was so worried one day that I went and sat down A&E untill they saw me and gave me a mini scan and low and behold I saw my little bean flipping about....I am now 24 weeks and my little bean is a little lady kicking the crap out of my tummy xx Best of luck to you and keep us updated xx hugs xx

CaringForPod · 17/11/2010 11:41

I echo the comments above. You need to make a fuss and get checked out. Hopefully everything is A-OK in there, but I know from experience you'll drive yourself mad if you don't know (well, I pretty much did).

I actually paid for a private scan at six weeks as, despite having significant bleeding, they couldn't guarantee I would get seen any time soon at the EPU. It was the best £160 we could have spent. Turns out I had lost one pregnancy, but there was another hanging on in there quite happily. I'm now almost 17 weeks.

I was a bit of a wuss, and should have sat it out in the A&E dept like jemsy87. So, go get some answers.

Let us know how you get on

xx

Nagoo · 17/11/2010 12:00

I oet referred for an early scan at six weeks due to risk of it being ectopic as I got pain on one side.

I have a 3 YO DS out of the pregnancy but definitely go and get a scan.

PGWomble · 17/11/2010 13:22

The chances are that nothing is wrong (I have had an ectopic in the past and am now 26 week pregnant with my DD and had dull aches and twinges with both), but you do need to get checked out. I am really shocked that you haven't been given an internal scan. Unfortunately, a positive test does not rules out an ectopic, and you should be examined. Good luck.

ps. As I say, the chances are everything is absolutely fine, but if it is an ectopic, visit www.ectopic.org.uk for info and support, and take heart in stories like mine, EP in Feb, PG with DD now, she is due next Feb.

Well I went to the hospital this morning and the result was inconclusive! Basically, they did an internal scan and couldn't see anything at all, so they did a blood test and I will have to have another in 2 days. I'm not sure whether I'm just not as far gone as I thought, and that's the reason they can't see anything, or whether I've miscarried already. Hope to find out by Monday though, it's driving us mad! Hope the bean's just hiding.

Glad you are under the care of the EPU - have been thinking about you. Hope you get some answers soon but just want to warn you that you may not have any answers by Monday. It can sometimes take a couple of weeks to work out what is happening.

Fraochsmum · 19/11/2010 11:39

Hi Appley, just want to wish you all the best for Monday x I assume it is an HCG test? It probably was too early to see anything, so please don't worry.

matana · 19/11/2010 15:38

My first too. I remember having period like crampy pains for about the first 12 weeks (maybe longer?), including a sharper pain on one side. Really early on (before i got BFP) i also had bleeding - not brown but bright red - first thing one morning and was convinced AF had arrived. When bleeding stopped without full period i did a test and got BFP. But i was still worried at the booking in appointment with the midwife so she booked me in for an early reassurance scan at about 9 weeks and all was well. Now 38+5.

If you're only 6 weeks it's probably still too early to see a heartbeat anyway so try not to worry too much (i know how silly that sounds). Good luck for Monday AppleyEverAfter, everything crossed for you.

toadmum · 19/11/2010 16:11

not sure I am writing on the right thread here as I have just joined! I took a pregnancy test 2 weeks ago and it was positive - bit of shock to me and my partner but we have slowly (sort of) come round to the idea. I have worked out that I am probably 5-6weeks pregnant. Anyway this Tuesday I started bleeding and having very dull period like pains. First reaction was I was losing it but having researched it you should have quite severe pain when miscarrying. Haven't a clue whether this is right as not been in this position before so after a little advice please. I have a planning with a nurse at my family planning clinic this Monday. Thanks in advance

sancerrre · 19/11/2010 16:17

I had this and read somewhere that the ovary the egg came from releases hormones which can be painful. All the best for Monday.

matana · 19/11/2010 16:35

toadmum - are you still bleeding? Only suggestion i have is for you to do another pregnancy test. If you miscarried it should be negative. If still positive, do another one in a few days to double check (pregnancy hormones can still be in your system for a few days even if you're no longer pregnant).

toadmum · 22/11/2010 12:10

Thank you Sancerrre and Matana. I have been bleeding since Wednesday now, really heavily on Saturday night but only with period pains no major pain. Took another test last night and was positive. However I realise like Matana said the pregnany hormones could still be in my systems.
Doc appointment tonight so see what they say! Will keep you updated.

GlitteryBalls · 22/11/2010 12:16

I had this. Period-type pain that seemd to be mainly on one side at arouind 6 weeks. I was offered an early scan and everythig was fine and still is at 33 weeks! No bleeding though. I would insist on an early scan to rule out an ectopic - though as my case shows pain on one side doesn't necessarily mean this. I can understand why you are worried. Good luck. x

Marrow · 22/11/2010 14:45

Hi Appley - hope everything has gone ok for you today.

toadmum · 23/11/2010 10:03

hey all,
just to let you know I went to GP last night and she believes I have miscarried. did urine test which was positive but believes that the preg hormones are still in my system. Will do another test in a week or so. Bleeding has subsided a little now.
Thanks for your comments and concern.
How did you get on Appley?

GlitteryBalls · 23/11/2010 12:48

So sorry to hear that toadmum. x

JimmyChoo17 · 23/11/2010 20:59

Hope you got on ok?
Sorry to hear about your loss Toadmum - have had 2 losses and possibly having a 3rd :(

I tested positive for 4 weeks after my 1st loss then negative within a week with my 2nd.

toadmum · 24/11/2010 11:14

Thank you GlitteryBalls and JimmyChoo17. I am a little disappointed and upset. However these are strange emotions to feel as I fell pregnant by mistake and didn't know if I wanted it. However over the last 3 weeks we have come round to the idea and so to lose it is a bit of a shock and an upset!

I am so sorry to hear about your 2 losses and possible 3rd loss JimmyChoo17. It will happen when you are ready I'm sure. How much time was there between the losses?

thanks again to all x

GlitteryBalls · 24/11/2010 15:35

I fell pregnant unexpectedly too toadmum and was unsure at the beginning, but as soon as I came round to the idea I would have been devastated if I'd have miscarried no matter how early on. I know they tell you not to get your hopes up til 12 weeks but how can you not? I had to go for a scan at 6 weeks due to the pain and had to go on my own as I was up north away from my family and I was pertrifried. I was lucky and can't begin to imagine how you're feeling. Thinking of you and Jimmy Choo. x

JimmyChoo17 · 24/11/2010 20:39

Toadmum - My 1st (MMC) was actually lost in Dec 09 found in January 10, fell pregnant in April and lost by early May. From May to October I hardly ovulated! I fell preg in October but waiting to find out about this little bean.
But I know I did ovulate twice since April and once has got me to where I am now. (Stick bean stick!!)

Hey Ladies - Did you know your right ovary ovulates loads more times than your left? I didnt...but 2 times I've been pregnant has def been from right ovary! Learn something new every day :-)

My next scan is Tuesday and all this clock watching is doing me in.

I nearly paid £100 to have a private scan done 2moro night but I cant really afford it and to pay that money and get bad news would be even worse! What would you girls do if it was taking over your life worrying? I still keep thinking about doing it! I know what hubby will say but its not him checking himself every time he wees, analysing every twinge and searching for that pregnant feeling :(

Roll on Tuesday....

AppleyEverAfter · 25/11/2010 12:52

Hope it goes OK for you JimmyChoo. I've got my fingers crossed for your little bean.

Toadmum looks like I'm in the same boat as you, have definitely miscarried. I started with a period hours after my last message, really normal pains, bleeding etc and it lasted for my usual 4 days. The EPU still wanted to do a second blood test anyway, so went for that yesterday and the count (whatever the hell that is!) had fallen to 18. They did a urine test too which was negative.

It is upsetting, even though we were trying not to get our hopes up and in reality I may have only been 4 weeks. I know so many women who have lost their first and gone on to have normal pregnancies. Just hope I'm one of those women.

So we will be trying again after xmas, hopefully periods will be as normal and I'll be back on here in no time. As the nurse said, trying is the most fun part!

Thanks for all your advice, comments and kind wishes. At the risk of sounding fluffy, MN is a real comfort in times of distress!

Sorry AppleyEverAfter to hear your news.
The good thing is that your levels have dropped quickly so if you want to start trying straight away you'll know that any positive you get now is due to a new BFP and not the old one. I hated that after my 1st loss.

I second what you said too....I joined a couple of other forums some of which can be even be quite clicky and some posts go unanswered :(
I wish I had found this site when I had lost my bean.
xx

Marrow · 25/11/2010 20:14

Sorry to hear your news Appley and ToadmumSad
Wishing you lots of luck for sticky beans when you are ready to start trying again.

Good luck for Tuesday JimmyChoo
