Pounding Heart and Exhausted

Hi,

Can anyone help with some advice please? I am 23 weeks on Thursday.
My heart seems to be pounding for no reason, I've done nothing but sit down for the last couple of hours and have even been up to bed to sleep but it's still pounding.
I feel exhausted and general rubbish. Any ideas? I have tried to call a midwife but getting no answer.

Hi cockle, I'm 23 weeks too and can't give out any medical advice but I've been having the same symptoms for quite a few weeks now. I mentioned it to my mw and she said that it's because of the extra blood flow - your heart has to work harder at the moment. She also said that braxton hicks can have the same effect too as the veins are temporarily constricted with each contraction. Hope that takes some of the anxiety away but, as I said, I'm not medically trained at all. M

A racing/pounding heart can be a symptom of pre-eclampsia (which can happen as early as 23 weeks). Please get your blood pressure and protein in urine checked asap, as PE can become very serious quickly even at such an early gestation. The chance are very slim that it is PE but not worth risking missing it if it was- if you can't get hold of your midwife then call your hospital's maternity ward for advice and try to get checked over today

Good luck

I am 22 weeks with twins and I feel god awful today, completely drained and puffed out although no pounding heart. I'm sure I have read that your blood increases again around now which can cause palpitations but check with your midwife. Have a warm bath and an early night :)

feeling tired and having palpatations can also be a sign your iron levels are low.

I too am 22 weeks. Last night I noticed that my heart started racing. Today I am exhausted despite having good and early sleep. I read in a preg book that you can start to feel tired around this time. I think it hormonal or increase in blood circulation as I have been having shooting pains in boobs.

please have your iron checked. I felt awful at around this time, and it was iron.

Scaltini · 18/11/2010 14:01

I had the same symptoms and was diagnosed as anaemic, they prescribed iron tablets which take a couple of weeks to kick in, but you def feel the difference once they do.

Would also say have your iron levels checked. Am not pregnant but have had symptoms of pounding heart and exhaustion. Thought I had something really seriously wrong with me. Eventually went to Drs, who did bloods. My iron levels are very low. Have been on tablets for 3 weeks and feel like a different person.Smile
