I live half a mile form station and make sure that each day I either walk to station and back or go for a (not very strenuous) swim. Is this enough do you think?

That sounds fine if it feels ok for you.
The amount of activity to do during pregnancy is a very personal thing, depending on how active you were before you got pregnant and whether you have had any complications etc.
If you feel comfortable with that level of activity and it doesn't cause cramps or contractions, it's probably fine.

Walking to biscuit tin.
Opening fridge.
Lifting biscuit to mouth.
Changing channels.
Complaining.
Peeing 12 times an hour.

These are all valid forms of exercise for late pregnancy.

God I think I'm good if I can manage to make it up two flights of stairs without a break Grin

Sleeping. Peeing. Clutching back in pain (may be more limited to those with SPD). crying to your DP/DH that you are fat and fed up and want this baby now? Surely much more than that is too much? Grin

phew - thought I was being crap because other people keep telling me about their yoga/jogging/'gentle' cycling.

That sounds excellent. Do as much or as little as you feel like and listen to what your body is telling you. I swim/ do aquanatal twice a week and try to fit in a walk each day too. I've felt great throughout my pregnancy (i have 12 days till my due date) and swear it's because i haven't really changed my routine that much and continue to stay fit. If you treat pregnancy like an illness it feels like one. On days i feel lethargic, i rest and don't feel guilty for it. On days i'm full of energy i do whatever i can. Grin

I found during my pregnancy things kept changing in terms of what I could do. I was do yoga and pilates twice a week until about 26 weeks, then stopped for about 3 weeks when I felt most exhausted, then started just yoga again until 37 weeks I think.
My sister went into hospital to have her baby 10 days before my EDD and I visited her twice a day for 7 days and I'm sure the power walk I did to and from the car and up and down the stairs is what kicked off my labour!

Sounds great - am Envy of your mobility! I did something to my back the other day and have what my MW charmingly calls a 'pendulous' bump and can barely stagger round the supermarket at the moment. I have 6 weeks left. Grin

Swimming is great if you were worried about straining anything. Probably a lot better than walking at this stage, as the water supports your weight wonderfully.

lainey1981 · 16/11/2010 11:49

i think that sounds fine. I have SPD so although try to get out for walk everyday, I really pay the price after. and wiggle i too congratulate myself for making it up the stairs - who knew you could get so out of breath walking from the (downstairs) bathroom up to the bedroom?

I can't wait til the LO is out and I can go for walks with the buggy without groaning in pain every step.

big respect that you are still swimming,

someone on my ante natal thread was still walking 10km last week (we are all due this month) Shock

Cies · 16/11/2010 11:53

I walked loads in my pregnancy, in fact I walked the 3km to hospital while in early labour! But I did it because it felt good, and I was bored at home, as I wasn't working then.

bigkidsmademe · 16/11/2010 14:24

I walk 2 miles a day between office sites (am 34 weeks). Beginning to get too much though, and I get the lift at work now. Otherwise i do what is on Zachary's list!
