baby is 4/5 engaged and back to back (with just over 4 weeks until due date) - anyone care to explain either of these please. I mean I know what they mean - 4/5 of babies head is feelable and 1/5 is in pelvis, and that it is facing the front, but in practical terms what does it mean eg how long until delivery and also will it be more difficult because back to back?

Hello,
My first daughter ( I am 5 weeks pg with number 3 ) was born back to back. I had no pain in my stomach or bump at all. It started as a very low back ache early in the afternoon and by about 8pm was just tight bands of pressure in my lower back.
To be honest the pain always stayed in my back. It was like relentless AF pain but coming in waves. I stayed upright the whole time with just gas and air and by about 2am I was ready to push. Without sounding crude it just felt like I wanted to do the biggest poo lol.
I didnt have an epidural as becuase i stayed upright she moved quite fast. I only lay down when it was time to push. You will NOT want to lie down and your body is right so stay as upright as you can.

I pushed for about 30 mins and then she was born Grin. So i guess for a first it wasnt bad. Whole labour was about 15 hours. Actual OMFG this hurts pain was about 5 hours.

2nd DD was born in an hour so I am hoping this one will pop out in 5 mins lol.

Good luck, do what your body tells you and breathe !!

Oh and being on all fours is a massive relief as the baby falls forward and eases the pressure slightly.
Undignified yes..........will you care.....probably not !
