bleeding after a sweep

im 38 weeks and have been on weekly scans due to static growth.
today i was put on monitor to see if i was having contractions but they said no, i was up all last night with what i thought were braxton hicks but very regular.
the doctor booked me to be induced next wed but gave me a sweep also.
it really hurt, i had one with my 1st dd but was already 3cm dilated and it didnt realy hurt.
she said i may spot after and straight away i had red blood, quite a lot.
when i got home the whole pad was covered in blood and the toilet full.
8 hrs later im still bleeding but less, some brown but mainly red with slight stringiness in places and some dark clots.
is this normal.
baby is active but no tightenings tonight.

Best bet is to give your maternity unit a wee ring and speak to one of the midwives, she will be best placed to advise you on what to do. Good luck, hope you don't have too much longer to wait!!

I'd phone them too. Good luck.

just an update, bleeding returned but only light red streaks but was advised to go to hospital where they monitored the baby who is fine and said it was probably the plug coming away but i had to have blood taken as im rhesus negative and may need anti-d so worth going, thanks.

With ds1 my midwife said a sweep only works if the baby is ready to make an appearance. Im 38+3 and I have to say that if dc wasn't breech, I wouldn't bother going through a sweep again. I found it painful and a bit traumatic, I guess.

Hope all goes well with you, thanks for the update x

think i will decline the sweep tues from the midwife as im being induced wed am anyway and dont want a heavy bleed like that again.
