Hi all,
Am going mad - am 2 days over now and no sign of anything happening.
Posted last week that hospital refused to do an internal (said they don't do them anymore!!!).
I don't want a sweep as such - just someone to check if the cervix has softened etc. The reason i want this is that i had an internal on my last DD (which was a vbac) and went into labour that night. Am banking on this happening again becuase of previous section can't be induced and because my last dd was ill when born i want this baby out asap and am getting very anxious.
Have been doing acupunture for weeks now hoping that would work - but nada!!
My GP is a man and i wouldn't ask him to do it so will find a female if i know GP's can do it.
Sorry about long and complicated post!!
Help!!

As far as i no you have to wait until 7days over for your midwife to do and internal and sweep. from my experience of begging her to do it both times i was over. at 7days over i had one with DS and went into labour hours later.

I had a sweep the day after my due date.

it must depend on your midwife. i no GP try not to do them and midwifes dont like giving them because of infection. the same as when your in labour.

Don't you have a community MW to ask?

i wouldn't think a gp would do it no.

your dp/dh could do it for you tho...

i would not however bank on it all happening the same way it did last time! you're only 2 days over...

Yes, a GP can definetly do a sweep. Whether they are willing to is another matter ...

I had to wait a week for my sweep with DS.

Its really weird, I have become obsessed with having an internal examination this time round. (I think I've been watching too many American programmes where they seem to have them straight away)
I just want someone to tell me if I'm dilated or anything. I've never been so keen to get my knickers off before!
MW today said it wasn't neccessary to do.

you could feel yourself

Lizzzombie · 08/11/2010 20:26

How would I know what I was 'searching' for? (apart from if I found the baby's head, in which case I think I may pass out)

Hayleybreastfeedingcounsellor · 09/11/2010 09:50

if you've got a pregnancy book they usually go into detail about the inside bits.

Wash your hands, squat down, stick your fingers up and have a good rootle.

Your cervix should be nice and low anyway, you'll be able to get an idea of whether it's effaced or not.

i got my husband to do it....then went for a walk round the supermarket and it all happened a few hours later
