I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. I have noticed over the past couple of weeks an definite increase in heart palpitations. They dont last long, a couple of seconds , but they seem to be happening more regulary. Twice today.
I have never had any heart problems. Cant remember experienceing this in previous pregnancies. Any one else had this, and is it worth seeing the GP about?

I had some in my pregnancy (3rd) and had never had them before - they really freaked me out - thought i was having a heart attach or something!!! I was about 28 weeks or so. I rang the MW - who told me to take things a bit easier (i was serously overdoing things and a bit stressed as well) I would check with your MW - just incase. Mine came round and checked my blood pressure etc

How bad were your palpiations Tessiebear? How often did you have them before you called MW.

I think you should visit your Doctors or speak to your midwife Tessiebear - I'm sure you already know, theres nothing worse than worrying in the dark to make things seem really bad.

I had a fair few with no previous heart problems - but that won't help you to know as it wll take your GP or midwife to completely reassure you that all is ok - and I am saying that with the best intent

Aargh Aaaargh! I meant Cori, not Tessiebear. Sorry Cori!

I had them throughout pregnancy and they got more frequent towards the end. I told the midwife and GP (and I think you should too) but they didn't seem bothered. Get your haemoglobin levels checked out too because mine improved when on iron tablets during the first half of the pregnancy. Don't fret too much - you get used to them eventually.

How are your HP's Cori???
btw - i rang the MW after only getting one as i just didnt know what it was at first having never had them before!

(hp = heart palpitations. Doh! )

Are you feeling any better - have you been trying to take things easier like Tessiebear said she was advised?

cori · 18/09/2005 20:41

I havent had any today.
I have been out all day at the British museum. so not quite taking things easy. Feel alright at the moment.

I had them from quite early on and was checked for iron levels in my blood. I was then given iron tablets and they improved dramatically as I was anaemic. Had them throughout but didn't worry as they are quite normal.
