first post - first test - first pregnancy

Hello :)

I tested positive yesterday and I'm absolutely delighted...:)) But very scared! My husband has been away all week and comes home tonight for his birthday - so I have somehow managed to keep quiet about the news. I'm hoping to include something that gives the game away in with his presents...

I have a doctors appointment in a few hours (maybe they test me again?!) and still have not told anyone... Obviously I want everyone to know but I've just been reading up on miscarriages and it looks like they're really common...

Anyway - that's it - just want to say hello and tell lots of complete strangers my news! :)

Hello, welcome and congratulations!!

GPs vary but mine didn't test at my first visit, just got me on the system. I was quite surprised that they asked me which hospital I wanted to go to. If you have a choice you could pass the next hour or so doing some research! Think in most cases you can change at a later date though if you want to discuss with DH!

I wrapped up a pair of bootees as a present, he asked baby shoes? what the hell am i meant to do with baby shoes?

I said I thought you might like to put them on the baby in my tummy...

even now i dream up good ways of telling DH again and im not even pregnant! My friend wrapped up a digital pregnancy test for her DH's birthday but i didnt fancy giving a stick of wee myself.

and congrats too i forgot that i the welcome...oooh let us know how you tell him!

Oh, how adorable, yes suprise him with something baby related.
I sat my partner down and said i had something to tell him, i was bubbling over with excitement and he said 'youre not up the duff are you?' jokingly and i started to cry because i thought he didnt want me to be, said yes, ran up the stairs and locked myself in the bathroom!! He was over the moon and really, really happy and when i eventually came out of the bathroom we fell in a happy, crying heap on the landing!!
Im only 6+5 but i cant wait to meet the little person im busy growing. Im petrified also and have been looking at the miscarriage threads on here but we have adopted the attitude of whatever happens happens and we're happy with that.

I was you about 5.5 months ago, just had a (surprise) positive test and thought, I'd better find out about this pregnancy/motherhood lark, and ended up here!

Congratulations! This site really is invaluable! Mumnetters are so clever and know lots about the sorts of questions you have esp as a first timer (that's me too!)

Congratulations! It's so hard not telling anyone, isn't it? I found out when dp was at work and I had a day off and every minute seemed like an hour waiting for him to come home, so I broke and told him over the phone, which was very dull!

Check out the ante-natal threads here, very supportive, fun, and you can blabber about baby stuff for ages before you are ready to tell the world at large!

TBH I wouldn't buy anything yet, but then I had 2 miscarriages before this pregnancy. Hopefully you'll be fine but around 25% of pregnancies are lost, so it does happen to a lot of women. Some GPs won't get you to book a midwife booking in appointment yet because the risk of miscarriage is so high at the very early stage.

ScarIettOHara Congratulations. I found out when I was at work and then had to wait all day before rushing home to tell DH. Can't wait to hear what his reaction is. How did it go at the doc?

His reaction was priceless - he seemed to go into complete shock and kept asking me how it was possible (we really thought we'd missed my ovulation date last month - he works away so trying to conceive has been tricky!)

Anyway he has slipped out of his coma and is now very excited - he's just back from buying me supplements... We both feel completely clueless.

He's having birthday drinks tonight so I'll go along and pretend to drink but just order tonic water (I don't know why but this makes it seem quite exciting!)

And the doctors... I don't know what I expected. Maybe this is because I have never been pregnant before but I think I wanted some big reaction - maybe to be checked out / given a blood pressure test / anything! But nothing - not even a re-test (which I was secretly hoping for as I still think I must have made some mistake and this is all just wishful thinking)

BUT - they told me my due date based on the first day of my last period... and it's my birthday??!

Loved telling DH i was pregnant the first time, i took the test on the morning of his birthday and it certainly surprised him when i ran into the bedroom and proudly presented him with my stick of wee!

Docs don't usually re-test as the home tests cannot give a false positive, so if the pone you took told you you are pregnant, then you definitely are.

Also don't worry about the lack of tests at this stage, GP's don't really seem to know very much about pregnancy as they leave that to the midwives who are generally much more helpful, and they make up for the initial lack of tests at your booking appt, which is at around 10 weeks. It will seem like a lifetime away, but trust me, it comes around very quickly

Hi, and congratulations! I also just found out this week and am a bit surprised (also keep thinking it's wishful thinking). Am also nervous and petrified and excited all at the same time!

Went to the docs yesterday and they wouldn't even see me, just said to make a midwife appointment which is weeks away.

How jolly exciting! It's the most amazing feeling when that blue or pink line appears. I did two the day we found out because I was in such shock and couldn't believe the first one. I did another about two weeks later when I didn't 'feel' pregnant and thought I'd got it wrong.

It changes everything and me and my partner are so happy in our pregnancy bubble so I wish you all the best. One thing I wish I'd known early on is that it is common to bleed so if you do get some bleeding and no cramps try not to panic. Mine came at week 14 (now at week 21).

I have just found out I am pregnant very early stages, wasnt planned but not unwanted either. Went to doctors and they have taken blood tests and again on monday. Dont understand exactly how the blood tests work. I have experienced very light bleeding so am a little worried.
Telling the oh wasnt very exciting as it was more shock that we were doing the test anyway and he said he had a feeling aswell God knows how he knew this when I didnt even feel any different.

Carla10- Wow - they're doing blood tests on you? I wish I'd had that - I came home from the doctors still wondering if I was really pregnant as this is the first time this has happened to me!
I keep reading up abut bleeding and some people on here say it's normal and not to panic... (but I'm no expert)

When I went the test they did was too faint, so doctor decided to do blood test. I am in the same situation they weren't even going to do another test. Very confused right now and obviously a bit worried about the bleeding
