Tried to do some ironing (rare occurance) dropped sodding iron, landed on carpet. FOR A FEW SECONDS!! Picked it up and discovered ruined carpet, with iron shape, burnt bits, horrible smell. shit shit shit. And the iron is ruined with all the bits of burnt carpet fibre stuck to it.

So upset. Why do I bloody bother. Ruined carpet and iron. No way can to afford new.

Sorry to hear you're having a shit day. Don't worry about the carpet - these things happen; you'll find a table or a rug or something to put over it. The main thing is you didn't drop it on your foot! Breathe! And maybe have some chocolate cake xx

goodlifemummy · 05/11/2010 10:53

Thats why I don't iron ANYTHING! Too many hazards! Have a bloody good cry and then re-arrange furniture. (I really don't iron, I just make sure I dry everything really flat and then if it is DESPERATE before wearing, then I will iron it!) Life is too short. Luckily DH doesn't wear shirt and tie for work. If he did, I'd make him do it!! Hope your day improves xx

Don't panic hun :] Like the others have said, find a rug or something to cover the mark :] Then it will look good as new, and no one will know :]

calm down! can you claim on the insurange for a new one>

angels1 · 05/11/2010 11:31

just about to mention about insurance but thisisyesterday beat me to it! A friend of mine was painting the woodwork in her hall when 8 months pg and spilt the tin of paint all over the carpet - they got a new carpet on home insurance.

I do the same as goodlifemummy and barely ever do ironing - literally a hand ful of times a year. Hanging clothes up in the bathroom and having a steamy shower also can get rid of creases to save you ironing.

Thanks everyone!

I've taken all advice, including cake, and insurance. They won't talk to me as the insurance in dh name, but it would be so amazing to get a new carpet as the old one has nasty burnt bits on it from fire, and the corner smells of cat wee that I just can't get rid of, even though I have tried everything!

Feel much calmer.

The stupid thing is I hardly ever iron anyway. I reckon that it why I dropped it as I had forgotten how. Obviously it is just not a strength of mine, and agree that life is too short. Just as well as that one is full of burnt on fluff anyway, and I'm not putting one on my Christmas list!

Is it quite long carpet? It's just years ago a friend dropped a cigarette on the carpet which left a massive burn, my mum showed me a nifty trick of just trimming the tops of it off where it's burnt.. Obviously depends on the carpet though.

Good luck!

bundlebelly · 05/11/2010 18:14

no, lucieloo, very old, thin and worn carpet, nothing to chop, it is practically down to the rubber anyway!

Still excited about possible insurance. Will hopefully be ok.

Lol... lovely brand spankingly new carpet it is then :)

sarahscot · 06/11/2010 15:45

Hmmm, perhaps I should do some clumsy ironing or painting too? Mind you, I'd have to tidy and clear the room to the get the new carpet down. Too lazy . . . Grin

littleyellowchicken · 06/11/2010 17:01

I have just broken the 5th item this week. They always seem to go smashing across the entire kitchen with little shards hiding and waiting for unsuspeting bare feet.
So much for accidents coming in 3s. I can't imagine I'll have any crockery left by the time baby comes.

Queenofthehill · 06/11/2010 20:22

I dropped a mirror today. Eek Shock. Thankfully it fell onto a blanket Grin. That was close!
