Anyone had or planning waterbirth?

Am thinking through all the birthing options and I have always liked the idea of a waterbirth after being told that it's apparently "less traumatic" for baby. I have however heard lovely stories of staff standing by with what can only be described as fishing nets to scoop up anything that might end up floating around :o So, have any of you had experience of waterbirth and how was it?

I had my last baby in a birth pool and it was a bit disappointing tbh.
I didn't feel the water made that much difference in terms of comfort, however I wish I'd got out of the pool to actually give birth as my son got stuck after his head was delivered. Now the staff moved me pretty fast to get me out of the pool but the fact that they couldn't get at me to help him in retrospect was frightening.
The reason I used the pool in the first place was to avoid being on my back on a bed as I felt that had been uncomfortable and not using gravity to get the baby out. In the pool I ended up lying on my flipping back in the water anyway so it made little difference.

Thank you all for your replies. It's certainly been eye opening and I guess if I go for the water option then I have just got to get over myself with the whole floating poo business! :o Actually, I reckon the one who would be most scarred by that would be my DH! But tough, it's me that's squeezing the child out and if I will be most comfy in water then he'll just have to deal with it Wink
