37 weeks, baby breech. Delighted...or am I?

I just found out today that baby is breech, which explains pain in ribs etc.
Anyway, I was initially delighted because I had already been given the ok to have an elective c section (due to previous delivery problems with ds1), but I was in a bit of turmoil as to whether I had made the wrong decision. So baby being breech took the decision out of my hands.
So, I stupidly started looking online at info on breech babies, and a few websites say your baby is "more likely" to be breech for various reasons, including if your baby has anomalies. Oh.

Does anyone have any proof for or against this? And how much "more likely" is this? I had a high risk of downs at my 16w blood test but 2 anomaly scans and a 3d scan reassured us that all was ok with that. Now I'm getting neurotic about all these things again. Ugh! !!

where the placenta is sited can be a reason too. if you've had 3 scans all come back ok, then i would think it is more than likely your baby is fine. and there is time for him/her to turn head down

ds was breech and he was perfectly fine. Nobody ever told me that his being breech could be a symptom of something else.

I had 2 breech babies (both successfully turned) and they are fine. My friend had a breech baby delivered by CS and she is fine.

Those are my only experiences of breech babies but 3 out of 3 is good.

VMCD, i had a breach baby - he was in breach from the very beginning and they kept saying he would turn himself. He never did and at 38 weeks I had him manually turned [yuk!] and then he stayed the right way up or the wrong way up [depending on how you look at it].

They told me it was likely to be from doing lots of sport [I did have a washboard stomach then!] and having very tight stomach muscles which meant that he couldn't move very easily. He was perfectly fine.

In my NCT, we had 3 out of 9 of us who were breech. One turned himself, the other had a CS and mine was turned manually - they were all healthy babies. But now you have 6 out of 6 and noone who heard anything similar to what you read.

My ds was breech, didn't turn for the ECV, so had a cs. He is perfect. I also googled to find about breech babies and wish i hadn't, will also never google again in pregnancy!!!

I remember being scared about those statistics, too. My baby was breech and she's also fine.

She had talipes (clubfoot) and hip dysplasia. Hip dysplasia is related to being breech, so your baby will have to be checked, but it's not a big deal at all. It's usually fixed by LO wearing a harness to point the femurs into the sockets. Remember that some of these anomalies are fixable!

My DS was breech from very early on and didn't move when they tired the ECV. He came out perfect.

I read that when pregnant with my ds and was really worried.

He was breech from ridiculously early on (less than 20 weeks!) and stayed that way until 38.5 weeks. Hes perfect!

My son went breech for a few days (at 35 weeks) because my dog had the shits and I'd been on my hands & knees scrubbing the carpet.

I think that means my dog has the anomoly, not the child!

I have never come across a breech baby (now adult) who is anything less than perfect.

My son was breech all the way from 26 weeks til he was turned at 38 weeks. He was
norm with positional talipe pn one foot and he had to have a scan at six weeks old to check for clicky hips. This was normal and the physio said his foot will straighten by the time he starts walking.
Because yours is breech they will refer for a hip scan at six weeks to check the hips. The rate of hip dysplasia (clicky hip) is only 1 in 1000 though. Don't worry, it's unlikely yours will be anything but perfect but all the leg things are fixable anyway.

A huge thank you to all of you for your information. I KNOW I'm being paranoid, but after two MCs, and bleeding through the first trimester I feel like I won't properly relax till this wee guy is here and safe.

And yes, I was guilty of reading "anomaly" as "something horrific"! Of course the issues with feet /leg/hips are fixable and not the end of the world.

About the "hip displasia" thing. A friend of mine had her daughter breech throughout the entire pregnancy - turned out the reason was because she had an enormous fibroid (4lbs!) on her uterus, so the baby couldn't move. She had the echo on her hips done last week and everything was fine. The paediatrician had already told her that it was fine but it was standard procedure for it to be checked up a couple of months down the line.
