Trying to have sex at 40 weeks

So I'm 40 weeks and I know that having sex is supposed to be great for softening the cervix but it is really uncomfortable. It pinches and stings a little. I'm wondering what other people experienced? Is it normal that it hurts? Also I'm worried that it means labour will be painful.

Labour will be painful I'm afraid, pushing out baby will definitly smart a bit. Tis normal.

dont bother in my opinion - really uncomfortable and not worth the effort involved - the baby will come out anyway whether you have sex or not to help it along

when i was 10 days over and DESPERATE to give birth, I suggested sex to DH. He has a horrified look on his face and said he would need to get his ladders and ropes from his van 1st! nice.
