This is pg 2 but I wasn't expecting to be out of things just yet. Does this mean I will be bigger than before? Is this possible - I was practically immobile I was so huge but then ds was 9lbs.

Hi AnnaK, I was like you too - I couldn't believe I was showing so soon, (I had my fourth last year). My midwife said that my stomach muscles were slack!*! Cheeky cow, I'd like so see her muscles after three children!!

pacinofan · 16/09/2005 14:08

Hi AnnaK, I'm so glad it's not just me! Will be 9 weeks on Monday - so far have gained 5lbs in weight, was exactly like this in my first pregnancy. Am fairly light (or was anyway) and I can really tell in my clothes. I actually have a bump already and keep wondering if we're having twins, but deep down I suspect my tummy was still a bit wobbly from dd1. At this rate I will be in maternity wear pretty soon! I gained exactly 3 stone with dd1 and really didn't want to be so big again so am trying really hard to cut out 'treats' from my diet as much as possible. Still, when you are forced to cut out lovelies like wine and blue cheese you have to allow yourself some small pleasures still (Green & Blacks Organic chocolate currently my thing)! All the best,

When I was PG with ds3 I remeber my jeans suddenly feeling tight when I was 5 weeks and 3 days!!!

By the time I got to 40 weeks I was humungous and looked almost comical
I still had people commenting on my pregnant belly 1 year after he was born and I was back in a size 10!

Mandymoo · 16/09/2005 19:01

HI
I'm 8 weeks pregnant and can only fit into one pair of jeans atm! Thought it could be just water retention but it doesnt seem to be going!! This is my 2nd pregnancy but i really didnt think i'd be showing quite as early as this!!

MrsSpoon · 16/09/2005 19:08

I was like this with DS2, we were on holiday at the time (didn't actually realise I was pg until the end of the holiday), I took my jeans off when we arrived and when I put them on for the journey home two weeks later I had to shoe horn myself into them, sat on the plane with the top button undone.

Was very large during the pregnancy, at about 6 months people thought I only had a couple of weeks to go and at 9 months everyone was asking it I was execting twins.

FWIW, I think it was the way I carried DS2, he was very out the front whereas DS1 seemed to be more round about.

MrsSpoon · 16/09/2005 19:08

Oh, and I bought maternity clothes at 12 weeks as I couldn't fit into any trousers/skirts by then.

Mandymoo · 16/09/2005 19:09

ok can i ask a really stoopid question?

How can i be showing at 8 weeks?! My baby is the size of a finger nail fgs!!!!!!! What is making my belly look like this!!!!!

MrsSpoon · 16/09/2005 19:15

I don't really know, someone did say fluid retention. I suppose there is more than just the baby in there too.

Mandymoo · 16/09/2005 19:16

God! misread your reply and thought you said there maybe be more than one baby in there!!!!!!!

MrsSpoon · 16/09/2005 19:22

LOL, that is always a possibility too!

SpikeMomma · 16/09/2005 19:54

Glad it's not just me then. I put on weight very early on. Was told it was probably fluid as babino would have been a dot!

Didn't actually realise i was pregnant at the time. Joined a right expensive gym as i thought i was a bit tubby - dur hur!

My lad was a 9lb-er too. Big kids. Bless em. I look at jeans in envy - haven't worn them for about 18 months and me kid's only 11 wks old!

But you know what - i'm as happy as larry - belly and bag lady clothes and all!

JIFDA · 17/09/2005 13:58

Hi i am new to mumsnet! I am pregnant with my fourth child & couldnt believe how early i started to show, by 8 weeks I was wearing maternity clothes as nothing fitted! I am now 10 weeks & I was never showing this much with my other pregancies, normally you can hide it till around 12 weeks! I am hardly eating hardly nothing as i feel very sick all day!! I have got a scan a week friday to check there is only 1 baby, although twins does run in the family!!!

waterfalls · 17/09/2005 14:14

Do twins run in your family

JIFDA · 17/09/2005 16:22

Yes my husbands nan was a twin & they have yet to come out in him or his sister! i think having twins would be great, although I bet i am just going to be bigger this time!

bubsylocket · 18/09/2005 11:02

Can I join the club too - yes another one that is well depressed to not be able to fit into anything apart from jogging bottoms or gypsy skirts !!! I have my maternity stuff from when DD1 was born but that is too baggy on me at the mo - I am 13 weeks !!!

JELLYJELLY · 09/10/2005 01:59

I showed at 9 weeks and everyone asked if i was expecting twins. Most insulted. i asked my midwife and she said the most often reason is due to slack muscles or being constipated because the hormones slow down the digestive track.

swizzles · 09/10/2005 12:29

if it makes you feel any better, I did a pregnancy test with my first child on the day my period was due, as my combats were tight around the tummy. I stopped wearing them at 7 weeks and bought a bigger size, which I then found uncomfortable at 11 weeks. I was in maternity stuff from then on.

And I'm someone who goes to the gym and does crunches

Am going to look like a weeble as soon as I conceive if we ever go there again

PurpleLostPrincess · 10/10/2006 10:36

This is my first post - this is a great site!

I'm 9 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child and we went to visit family last week. They all said that I am showing already They are all convinced that I'm having twins as we found out there are twins on my hubbys side. I have since booked in with the midwife but she said it has to be on the maternal side...? So, I can't fit into my jeans anymore, but having read all your experiences, it looks as though I'm just getting big quick!

Creena · 10/10/2006 10:51

Oh yes. I know this feeling! I'm 7 weeks up-duffed with my third and have quite the pot belly forming. I've read that after your first pregnancy, your abdominal muscles are never quite the same again and, as soon as you're pregnant again, they immediately slack off duty! Add to that the bloating that progesterone causes (along with gassiness and enormo-poos).

I'm relieved that I'm working from home this week as yesterday I discovered that pretty much every pair of trousers I own (apart from one pair of jeans) now refuse to button up over my belly and also give me a severe case of camel toe. Not a good look. Right now, I'm letting it all hang out in a pair of comfy but completely unattractive yoga pants. I've got to go into the office next week and imagine that I'll be even bigger by then. Maternity trousers here I come!!

LuubyLuu · 10/10/2006 15:11

If its any consolation, i'm 17 weeks PG with number 2, and also had put on loads in terms of girth and weight by about 8 weeks. However, it's slowed down since then. I think a lot of it was just bloating, rather than growing a massive baby!
