...any PG-friendly suggestions for remedies I can take? I am already on max dose paracetamol, Sterimar nasal spray, am steaming over olbas oil, gargling with salt water and mainlining strepsils. I suspect there's not much else I can do, but thought I'd ask anyway!

A hot drink. Usual suggestion is Honey and Lemon but personally I hate honey. It is supposed to make you feel better. I usually opt for hot vimto instead as I like the taste of that. :)

I hope you feel better soon!

get antibiotices if you can a chest infection is unlikely to shift without them. I ended up with pleurisy at 34 weeks - not pleasant :(

Hope you feel better soon.

me too...was just coming on to ask the same thing. Feel rubbish today so just been drinking lots of water and honey and lemon. Fresh orange with honey in is good (heated in the microwave) Sounds disgusting but is nice I promise!

There's only 3 of us in my team and my also pregnant manager has already been off for a week and half with a chest infection and has said is not likely to be back until the end of this week so it's not like I can have a day off either. Think the poor girl that would be left would have a meltdown as we're so busy at the moment :(

Try getting lots of sleep as well spotofcheerfulness I think as there's very little we can take it's back to the old fashioned 'sleep is the best medicine' and hot drinks. What fun! Hope you feel better soon x

Thanks Smile. I would love to sleep but find it v hard as my nose is so blocked I have to breathe through my mouth so I get a sore throat. Plus DP has a chest infection so we are taking it in turns to deal with manic toddler DS.
Chynah, Shock at your pleurisy, that's terrible. I didn't realise you could take ABs but `i guess it's the lesser of two evils. Were you ok for the birth?

Definitely go to the doctor for antibiotics. I had both last week but feel so much better now. Better to get well soon!

Spotofcheerfulness - amoxicillin is fine to take in pregnancy which is what they will probably give you. Cleared up quite fast once I got them. Depending on how far in pg you are you can also take otrivine nasal spray sparingly (check with MW or NHS direct) - nice to beable to breathe!

Any suggestions for coughing... coughed so much I made myself sick this morning.. thought I was going to lose my eyeballs! :(

DuelingFanjo · 01/11/2010 09:53

I heard Chicken soup is good for colds. It's supposed to loosen any mucus!

japhrimel · 01/11/2010 11:44

Try honey & lemon for coughing - or ask a pharmacist about basic glycerin based cough syrups.

If you think you've got a chest infection, antibiotics are needed.

I had a bad cold recently and not only made myself puke with coughing but hurt my back so badly I got rushed into hospital! Shock It's really horrible being ill when pg!

I have had hideous cold for about 6 weeks now and the blocked nose at night is the worst thing. You are not meant to use Olbas oil in pregnancy btw - you can get menthol crystals from chemist which are much more effective IMO anyway.
