Medical card

I'm 6 weeks pregnant, I've been to the GP but she didn't do the form for the medical card.

My wisdom tooth really hurts, I think it's infected. Do I just go to the dentist and pay, or is there a way of getting it free before getting the card? (Very little spare cash right now).

My MW forgot to do mine at my booking in appointment. I phoned the surgery and they got it sorted, but it took time. I had to go and fill in my bit, then a doc done the other bit and it was sent off. Mine got lost and I had to do it all over again.

I think you can get receipts and claim it back but you have to make sure the doc or MW dates your form from before the date of the receipt.

I also needed a prescription before I had my card. I explained to the chemist that I didn't have my card yet (I wasn't showing) and she just said it didn't matter and ticked the box for me to get it free. You could phone your dentist and ask them.

Oh OK, I'll try, thanks. :)

you should just be able to sign the box at the dentist - you don't actually need the card

If you aren't showing they may ask to see the card though. May look a bit silly if you don't have it. I would ask before, just to make sure.

My dentist just took my word for it and didn't see card - she said to bring it along to next appointment. Phone reception before you go and see what their policy is.
