My dd is 33 weeks and absolutely full of cold, she has a sore throat, losing her voice, going hot, headache and general aches and pains,i have given her 2 paracetamol and hot blackcurrant to drink..

Does anyone know any other non medicine drinks or anything, that made you feel a bit more comfortable, she is only 17 and this is her first baby,Thanks.

A single whisky?

Any hot drinks - camomile tea? Hot lemon and honey?

Paracetamol is fine in normal adult doses (1g four times a day)
Avoid anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen/Aspirin
Avoid decongestants

If in doubt ask the chemist you are buying from.

Any hot drink with honey will do as much as a Lemsip (well, almost Wink).

Chicken soup is a proven phlegm-losener, so genuinely a good idea to help with cold symptoms.

If she is very unwell get her checked out: she will be more prone to infections while pregnant. Swine flu is still about and can affect pregnant women more.
When she is better, consider the flu vaccine for her.

Hope she is better very soon.

Juice of half a lemon in a mug, add boiling water and 6 cloves, leave for 5 mins, get rid of the cloves then add a teaspoon of honey. Amazing for a sore throat. At night add a tot of whisky to help with sleep. Paracetamol every 4-6 hours and LOTS of fluids. And plenty of rest. Oh and I swear by chicken soup, homemade with lots of garlic.
