39 weeks with a small bump - anyone else the same?

hello, I'm 39 weeks pregnant with my second child and I'm panicking. my bump is a completely different shape to what it was with my first (it's very low) and is considerably smaller! Everyone comments on how small it is and the last couple of times i've been to the midwife I've asked to the measured and my bump is a few of weeks smaller than it should be. My midwife is notoriously very laid back and hasn't really said anything about this, although i'm worried. i'm exhausted looking after a toddler and I'm worried that I'm not looking after myself as well as i should - in fact when i look back on the whole pregnancy i've hardly rested nor eaten as well as i did first time around. I wonder if anyone else has been small for their dates, and was their baby ok? I'm sure it's just my hormones getting the better of me that's making me worry so much, but would really appreciate some advice or reassurance if possible. Thanks

Hi Sara79 I'm 38+5 and I'm measuring small too. This is DC4 for me and all 3 of my DSs were good sizes (9.5lb, 8.13lb and 8.7lb) and my measurements went with the weeks. I am measuring about 35 now and each time I see my MW she seems unconcerned. I saw my consultant 3 weeks ago and he said it is probably just the way the baby lays and he wasn't worried either. People say that these measurements are very rough anyway and as long as the baby is moving around and everything is ok, I'm sure there is nothing to worry about. My baby is very low and kicks so high into my ribs that I find it hard to believe it is small!!! Smile

I'm 39 weeks today and earlier in the week was measuring 33 weeks. My MW was concerned and so I was sent for a growth scan which just showed the baby had moved down further into my pelvis - hopefully ready for birth! Probably the same thing has happened for you. Smile

Last time I was carryting DTs so I can't really compare but if you are worried then push for a scan, or a second opinion to at least put your mind at rest.

Oh and my baby is measuring slightly on the small side (currently just over 6lbs) - but as the sonographer said, I'm not big so she'd be surprised if I was carrying a 9lb-er!

Im 38 weeks and although i was measuring bang on for my dates at last mw appointment she said i looked considerably smaller than last time (only 18 months ago). she said maybe its a girl this time - however was v clear from 20w scan that he's v much a boy Wink

Thank you, it makes me feel better that not everyone measures bang on their dates, and it's ok. There's so much to think about at this stage that I think that I just feel a bit overwhelmed and this is just something else. I'm sure it's probably the position of the baby - The midwife thinks it's back to back so maybe that's it.
