im currently 36+ and so far blood tests, blood pressure and urine dips have all been normal. The only swelling ive had is in my hands, ive had to change rings twice now and woke up today and noticed it was a bit tighter. But now also noticed that face was quite puffy and ankles were a wee bit swollen, face has now reduced tho, and ive been really uncomfortable yesterday and today.

Any reason to contact nhs 24 or wait till monday when im due to see midwife?

I wouldn't bother wirh NHS direct just phone labour ward or DAU direct for some advice Smile good luck, it is normal to have some odema in pregnancy however odema of the face can be linked to P.E.T.

I agree with me23 - swelling in the face is one of the symptoms of pre-eclampsia. I'd go straight to A&E to get checked out.

Don't hesitate to go if you start developing a headache or seeing flashing lights.

Good luck.

minimuffy · 30/10/2010 13:16

even though the puffiness has died down bit?

I think it is unlikely to be pre-eclampsia but as PET is so dangerous if it were me I would at least for labour ward for advice.
If accompainied with any other signs such as stomach pain, nausea, headaches, I would probably go striaght to Maternity unit I wouldn't bother with A&E they will only send you up to maternity.

me23 · 30/10/2010 13:26

sorry meant to say at least phone labour ward/DAU for advice what harm can it do?
Also most cases of PET have no symptoms.

DancingHippoOnAcid · 30/10/2010 13:28

I would second ringing labour ward to get advice.

Pre-eclampsia can come on scarily quickly and is an emergency.

I had it with no startling symptoms and had to be admitted as an emergency so don't wait for MW appointment.

I had the same thing at 34 weeks, swelling hands and feet all of a sudden - i phoned labour ward and althought midwife made me feel a bit crap like i was wasting her time she still advised me to come and get checked out and she did my blood pressure and tested my wee, all was fine but best to be safe.

goodlifemummy · 30/10/2010 15:45

I had pre-eclampsia in my 1st pg (twins) which came on at about 30 weeks. I am being monitored v closely at the mo (am 33 weeks tomorrow) as they were delivered at 33+6. I saw the registrar this week and she said that the next milestone for me to get to is 36 weeks, as that is the point when late-onset PE can start. So if I were you I would ring the ward at least for some advice...jut in case. It can't do any harm and better to be safe than sorry. Until Wednesday I didn't realise there were specific points when it can kick in.

AlpinePony · 30/10/2010 17:48

I didn't have any symptoms either... hit me like a brick, admitted with bp 185/125 - emcs 48 hrs later at 36+5. It's only now I realise just how serious it was.

me23 · 30/10/2010 20:40

how are you minimuffy did you call lw?

PipIsOutNow · 31/10/2010 18:06

i didnt actually develop pre eclampsia but i had every symptom in the book apart from flashing lights...i was admitted to hospital for 2 weeks (on and off) at 36 weeks because they were worried that i could develop pre eclampsia in a flash...please do not hesitate to contact them, i didnt even know what it was let alone how serious it can be until i was admitted. its better to be safe and feel a little silly for making a fuss than to leave it and something happen. ring ante natal ward, they may say just leave it, they may ask u to come in for a bp check etc...good luck!

minimuffy · 01/11/2010 13:52

cheers all, seen midwife today and BP, pee, babys heartbeat all normal! Thank goodness!

just to keep an eye out for headaches, more swelling etc...
