Sorry ladies i just need to have a little winge. I cant believe i am 1 week over due! im getting induced in 3 days but i am worried about it cos i have heard that getting induced can have bad side effects for other pregnancies, but i am dying to have our baby here!

I have also heard that getting induced makes contractions hurt more? i have tried drinking castor oil, had the stretch and sweep and have lost my plug but dr thinks im no where near ready!

This is my first baby and would just like him to come without having to made to come, but with saying that i dnt want to wait any longer.

Oh so frustrating!

Oh, it is so frustrating. My dd1 was 11 days late. You are so ready and excited and then you think you are going to have your baby - and then you have to wait some more.

Try and enjoy your last few childfree days I say! I wish I had. For the next five years you are never going to be able to read the paper.

I am a week overdue today too... first sweep happening in a few hours (whenever the mw comes) and then another 3 days later if that doesnt work. They wont think about inducing me til 12 days over (I may decide to go for monitoring instead as have similar reservations re: induction).

Is there any particular reason they are inducing you so early 20andmum? Or could you wait a bit longer to see if things happen on their own?

I was wondering the same, why are they inducing you at 10 days?

I was induced last time, am 4 months pg this time - have never heard of any other side effects for further pregnancies once induced though. I think the problem with induction is that, if baby isn't ready, it's not natural. I know lots of people for whom one lot of prostin gel kicked things off smoothly into natural labour, but I had 3 lots and the drip and yes, it hurt lots (no idea whether more or less than normal, but I think it's because there wasn't the gradual build up and the prostin pains are like artificial contractions - feels real, but timings are all screwed up etc).

I had hypertension, and they terrified/bullied me into being induced - if I could have waited until longer, I would have loved to do it naturally when baby was ready. Now I have the fear that my body doesn't know how to do it naturally!! Good luck!

(I ate 2 pineapples in one day and my waters broke, but they insisted on inducing me anyway!)

Hey 20andmum and other ladies yes I too am 5 says over EDD. Very annoying with second baby thought it might have better timing DS1 was induced at 12 days. Really don't want induced again but large scans mean Im booked in for 3rd Nov. I know the scans could be wrong but TBH I think I just want LO out now its like groundhog day waiting but still have at least 5 days left to get things going naturally please please please ...

Im 4 days over EDD :( Totally feel your pain and concern re induction - im due to be induced 10 days over aswell due to measuring on the big side and am totally scared to death to be honest! I had my waters broken and a drip last time with my first but i was already in labour just not progressing fast enough so that was totally different from turning up not in pain/labour to be lead down the corridor to what feels like my torture room!

Im also conccerned about how long the process will take, i know each person is different but i hear it can be 1 or 2 days before any action starts and with a 2 yr old at home i dont really want to be in hospital away from him for that long.

Have they explained the procedure to you - how they plan to induce you i mean? I have been offered no explanation just given an appointment time which i now feel like i wish i had spoken up and asked more questions!

Yummy Mummy, I was told to come in at 7pm, had usual checks etc and then was given first prostin just afterwards (pains started around 10-10.30). Then another first thing the following morning; and another several hours later. That did bring on contractions, but not enough and at about 3am I had the drip administered. Almost 12 hours later, LO arrived and I discharged myself 6 hours after that, so I was in hospital for just over 48 hours.

But I know people for whom it got moving much more quickly with their second, so hope this is you if you have to be induced!
