Sweep question

Would anyone recommend taking paracetamol tomorrow morning before my sweep? Or is it not as bad as I have heard...

Its tricky because it all depends on the 'enthusiasm' of the person doing the sweep IME. I had three in my first week overdue with DS, two were okay but one was a shocker, DH swears she was up to her elbows!!!!

At the end of the day it cant hurt to take the paracetemol, but even with the more painful of my sweeps the pain was fairly intense but she was only sweeping for a short time really, dull ache afterwards.

How are you with smear tests, do you really suffer from those??

I had one today (oh joy!)

I would very much compare it to a smear. I felt quite a lot of pressure and discomfort, but the midwife wasn't rummaging around for long, and I felt fine as soon as she'd finished.

I had two sweeps with my first (now 26+2 pg with second). The first was awful, I was on my own and found it very uncomfortable, painful and upsetting. The second I had on a weekend when my husband was there and it was fine - ok, not nice but nothing like the first.

My conclusion is that a sweep is like a blood test, sometimes you barely feel it other times it is painful, sore and you're left bruised.

I would strongly recommend that you take someone for moral support and hope that you get a good midwife. Most of all, I hope it helps the baby to arrive (mine did the day after the second sweep even though they told me it was unsuccessful at the time). Good luck.

had two with dd2, didn't find it at all painful but am convinced that it contributed to the increase in pain during early labour.
