Do I have reason to worry or not?

4th pregnancy,

had scan - was supposed to be 13 weeks, was 10+4.

Was worried that baby was small/not growing (this is me not MWs) as i was pretty sure i was at least 12 weeks by my calculatiosns.

Anyways my sickness stopped at about the time i had my scan, my sickness usually lasts th whole pregnancy.

And now (and i KNOW what the response will be) but I've had a doppler with all my pregnancies, I've always been able to find the heartbeat from about 10 weeks with them all.

Am supposedly 12+weeks now and tried 3 times and so has DH - placenta is 'swooshing' but cannot find heartbeat at all not for a second,

That wouldn't usually worry me alone, i know the baby can be tucked away sometimes but teamed with my other worries I'm just a bit, well upset about it.

Did you see heartbeat at scan and, is so, was it normal?

Most midwives won't listen to HB before 16 weeks anayway. The position of your placenta may be preventing you from hearing HB. Also, not all pregs are the same.

Might be worth getting another scan done privately if NHS won't do another one.

Hope all works out well.

Haven't got the money for a private scan - i would have one if we did.

Yes we saw the HB, she didn't say anything but it was very rushed were only in there about 4 minutes! the couple after us were complaining about waiting Hmm

Er...you could always pretend you'd had bleeding and they might scan you. I know you probably shouldn't do that but if you are desperate...

Amberc · 27/10/2010 12:23

I am clearly a bad person...

TotorosOcarina · 27/10/2010 12:27

Lol Amber, don't think I can do that as I have homebirths and they tend to use any excuse for you to go to hospital to give birth so I don't want to add anything to my aldready ample list of problems!

I am clearly a bad person and would do that too....

I don't think a bit of early pregnancy bleeding would count you out for a home birth. have you tried with your doppler when your bladder's really full? I've always found this makes it easier to hear.

Could you have ovulated a bit later the month you conceived? I think scans can be up to 5 days out anyway so if you were actually eg 11+2 and thought you were 12 then it's not as far our as it sounds

Also, it is not unusual that sickness fades around 12 weeks due changes in hormones.

I personally would not advocate lying to get another NHS scan. Clearly they are overstretched. Surely the sonographer would have raised any concerns.

Given that HB was seen and you don't have cramps or bleeding (I assume), then it sounds reassuring.

it is highly unusual to find a heartbeat with a doppler before 18 weeks so I don't think you should check

no 2 pregnancies are alike

if there was a heartbeat it is doubtful that there is anything wrong

I would try to relax or insist on another scan

i could get babies heartbeat at about 10 weeks on an angelsounds, but I have a postierior placenta which may explain it. If your placenta is at the front it will be hiding the baby.
