Knickers!

I'm just starting to get a bump and my knickers are starting to roll down at the front. I find this really irritating.

I see that mothercare etc do maternity knickers, but they just look like normal knickers to me, with the exception of these bad boys.

Does anyone here have maternity knickers? Are they worth it? Which ones should I seek out/avoid? Or should I just get bigger normal knickers? All knicker-related advice welcomed!

I just got normal pants, but in a more shorts-type style than high leg briefs. They sit comfortably under my bump.

beautyguru · 27/10/2010 10:12

Lol, loving the mothercare bad boys...I'm going to be investing in some myself! Grin
I'm 31 wks and wish I had discovered these previously...been manageing so far with normal short type knicks but now they are starting to irritate my CS scar from dd. Plus I know I'll be able to wear these post preg as I'm having an ECS this time so don't want anything rubbing on the new scar and these will come right above it nicely! Worth the money I think...

Buy big pants from Primark 5 for £2.50.

I wore mine throughout pregnancy, after c-section, and still wear them now 3 months onBlush

marriednotdead · 27/10/2010 10:41

I wish the Mothercare ones were around when I had my DCs, they look really comfy.

I found that I needed the bum to be bigger to counteract the low front IYSWIM. That or these Grin

mejon · 27/10/2010 11:33

I had a pair of those Mothercare ones last time and I've just found them in a bag of old pants. What they don't show is a very wide band of elastic which sits under the bump as support which I found pretty uncomfortable when I re-tried them a few weeks ago (now 28wks) - though that will probably be due to my rather strange bump. The comfiest pants I've got are cotton/lycra mix 'big pants' from Peacocks - very stretchy and come up high. I'm going to get some larger ones to see me through to the end.

pinkyp · 27/10/2010 11:41

I agree with the big primark pants! U can stock up on different sizes and are very comfy!

angels1 · 27/10/2010 11:48

I brought mothercare maternity knickers that were more like mini's/high legs in style but they are rubbish - too tight and uncomfy after about 18 weeks. I'm on m and s normal knickers in a bigger size in the granny full brief style. I'm also off to primark next week coincidently to stock up on cheapies [hgrin]

FindingMymOOOOOOOOjo · 27/10/2010 12:26

Oh gogody I've so been wanting to ask - Maternity knickers have me puzzled. I can see perhaps in the winter you might want the big pants over bump ones to keep bump warm & comfy, but why underbump knickers?

I wear briefs, they fit underbump very well - kept wearing same knickers all through last pregnancy & plan on doing the same for this one?

How are underbump maternity knickers different from normal briefs?

Samraves · 27/10/2010 12:33

I got some great plain black big knics from Primarni!

PaigeTurner · 27/10/2010 12:51

I remember asking my pg friend when I had to stop wearing my normal pants for applecatchers and she looked at me like I was mad... I'll avoid big pants if at all possible thanks!

WriterofDreams · 27/10/2010 13:07

I'm 32 weeks and still wear my normal knickers (bikini briefs). Elastic goes around my hips under the bump and they stay up fine.

cotswolder · 27/10/2010 13:33

I'm 29 weeks and still in my normal knickers. Did think about maternity knickers but have just kept going wiht my own - as much because I just couldn't be arsed to go shopping! As WoD says they do go around hips and under bump which really doesn't bother me!

I will however be buying big cheap granny knickers however closer to date :0

Yellowflowers · 27/10/2010 14:17

I have got m and s full size knickers in a size two sizes to big - they are total granny pants and come up over my bump - so comfy, if not remotely sexy.

PGWomble · 27/10/2010 14:32

I had the same problem, but it has passed now the bump's moved up a bit. For a while I was wearing maternity leg-ins long john style, and no knickers Blush

MrsFC · 27/10/2010 15:08

I wore bikini briefs last time round under my bump but I had a CS and now hate things touching my scar. Plus I have a VERY unattractive overhang.

I am wearing these and they are lovely & comfy...

FourEyesGood · 27/10/2010 19:42

In my first pregnancy, I didn't notice any problem with knickers, but this time, they rolled down the bump and drove me mad. I bought some of the underbump knickers from Mothercare and they were much better (but a bit on the large side; if you're on the border of sizes, go for smaller rather than larger). I've bought a cheap pack of hideous two-sizes-too-big granny pants for after the birth, in case I have to have a CS.

LisMcA · 27/10/2010 20:14

I wore a pair of DH's boxer briefs at the weekend (out of desperation, we were away with no access to civilisation or Primark) when my own knicks apparently shrank overnight!

I may have to get some of my own and sew my name in them :o

Jupiter118 · 27/10/2010 22:33

Mothercare also do these:
www.mothercare.com/Oriental-Blossom-Overbump-Mini-Briefs/dp/B003P58UZE/sr=1-20/qid=1288215027/ref=sr_1_20/278-3768798-3322214?_encoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=44322031&mcb=core

Had some first time round and just bougth some new ones - v comfortable - all cotton - but so unattractive. DS - 3.5 and DH think they are hilarious!

northlondonchoclover · 28/10/2010 13:45

Just went out to buy the Marks and Spencer big knickers (ala Bridget Jones) - 4 quid for 5, 3 sizes bigger than normal. They fit over my 35 week bump! 100% cotton too! Great tip ladies! Grin

Rinnyx · 28/10/2010 17:25

I just bought afew cheap packs in tesco a size bigger than norm and I am 38 weeks and they still fit a treat :)

Balletpink · 28/10/2010 17:44

ecuse, don't knock the knicks until you've tried them! Wink There's nothing more comfy than proper maternity knickers, especially in winter. Don't just go for bigger size knickers as they'll be too big round your legs and the tummy elastic will still cut in right in the middle of your bump. I didn't like the underbump ones as it always felt like they were falling down.

Why not buy a pack of over and under bump knickers each and see which you prefer? Tesco used to do packs of maternity knickers which were inexpensive and just like ordinary knickers, in that they didn't have a big bump band of elastic or anything. Don't know if they still do them or not though.

ecuse · 28/10/2010 18:02

Balletpink - sounds like a plan!
I think I'm going to go for big old overbumps, because I'm a high-leg girl, hate the low-slung ones (mostly because of my belly overhang, even when non-preggo!)

I actually bought briefs that go under the bump but in a bigger size. I used to wear 'tanga' style briefs, you know just elastic at the sides and quite small but not g-strings, but then I realised that since I wasn't able to maintain my lady garden, my knickers didn't quite cover the top of my lady garden. Eeeeekkk! So mortified!
