Hi. I'm 29 weeks and seem to have woken up this morning with stretch marks appearing! Bit worried that if starting now, just how bad they may get? For info I have been plastering bump in Bio Oil for the last month as well in an attempt to prevent them appearing - to no avail it would appear!

Just wondered if others had them, when they had started and how significant they had got?

Thanks

I got my first at around 24 weeks and have since got more, all on the underside of my bump (I'm 33 weeks).

The oils and creams won't actually stop them appearing - they'll just make them less uncomfortable and help reduce their appearance afterwards (they fade anyway).

You can't stop them, even if you swim in Bio Oil, the tearing is from the inside.

I didn't get them on my tummy. However my boobs looked as if they had had a tiger skiing on them Shock

I got mine 3 weeks towards the end and boy did i get them!! Used every cream and oil going but i think if ur gonna get them then nothings gonna stop them.

pinkyp · 27/10/2010 11:52

i used bio oil in the first 2 trimesters of my 1st pregnancy, and only got stretch marks in the last 4 weeks, but they all come at once! This time i'm 36 weeks and i dont have any 'new' ones but i've been using bio oil in the 3rd trimester too.

Dont worry tho stretch marks do fade, mine were horrible and bright red at first, then they went pink and now there more silvery and i honest dont mind them no more.

Thanks all - will just put up with them, call them part of the experience and keep up with the bio oil :) at least boobs are ok for now.......

marriednotdead - now have a mad vision of filling the bath with oil and swimming in it :o

I don't have any on my belly at 34 weeks but am fully expecting to get them.

Have some on my breasts already.

lainey1981 · 27/10/2010 15:28

I am 36 weeks and so far seem to have escaped with just a tiny one where my belly button piercing used to be (took it out years ago). am doing frantic mirror checks each night, but am resigned to getting more as they baby grows lots in the next couple of weeks and realise that despite using bio oil religiously since about 12 weeks there is nothing I can do to stop them.

lilmamma · 27/10/2010 18:23

dd has thm on her hips, she is 32 weeks, and every day looks for more,i got tem and so did my mum,so i told her there is nothing down for her lol.ps they do fade, and with next 3 children i never got anymore..

lennon80 · 27/10/2010 18:36

I thought I had gotten away with them too..I only noticed them at 33 weeks (they got a bit worse by 35)..the underside of my belly looked like I had been attacked by a four year old with a purple felt tip. I was using all creams etc..should have realised I would get them as my mum has them in exactly the same place.

mistressploppy · 27/10/2010 18:39

I didn't get any

snowmummy · 27/10/2010 19:43

I didn't get any in my first 2 pregnancies but I've noticed a few little ones around my belly button that have appeared in the last few days. I'm 24 weeks now.

marriednotdead · 27/10/2010 20:20

Cotswolder- not such a mad vision, but you'd have to be stinking rich!

autumnberry · 27/10/2010 20:27

I jut read that eating avocados is supposed to help support the growth of the skin. Give it a try. I will!

autumnberry · 27/10/2010 20:29

Oops, JUST read.

DancingThroughLife · 27/10/2010 20:34

Yes, at about 34 weeks, they were terrible.

Sorry if that isn't what you wanted to hear. I too plastered myself in Bio Oil and all the balms and creams that were 'failsafe' recommendations. I think you either get them or you don't.

Good luck!

sungirltan · 27/10/2010 20:38

38 weeks and suddenly they were there! under the bump from belly button down.

dont worry though. my dd is 12 months and they are harldy visible. i tried bio oil but post baby found firming body lotions much more effective. atm i am using garnier body tonic- flipping amazing! loreal nutri lift also very good :-)
