When, if at all, did your rings stop fitting?

My wedding ring is fine but my engagement ring is getting a bit tight - am 33 weeks and love wearing my ring. Do yours still fit? I don't like things round my neck so having mine on a chain no good.

I'd be interested in hearing all the different answers to this. I recently got engaged (talk about doing things back to front? :) ) and I need to resize my engagement ring. I can't imagine not wearing it until the baby has arrived....

whomovedmychocolate · 25/10/2010 17:01

Oh gosh mine came off at about three months and stayed off till DS was 9 months old.

BuckBuckMcFate · 25/10/2010 17:03

Have finally given up wearing mine at 38 weeks Sad

I was finding they were fine at the start of the day but getting tighter throughout so I've taken them off completely as I was worried i would take them off and 'put them somewhere safe' temporarily and never see them again.

eeyore2 · 25/10/2010 17:04

Never, but I didn't get very bloaty at any stage now I think about it.

Simbacat · 25/10/2010 17:05

I would suggest that you take them both off and keep them off. I had no problems at all in pregnancy- a few weeks out (can't remember exactly) my ring suddenly wouldn't come off (only mild water retention but enough).

One midwife wanted it cut off but the other gave us a few hours to get it off ourselves- iced water, olive oil etc- finally it came off.

Took it off with 2nd child at about 30 weeks just in case.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 25/10/2010 17:05

I took mine off at around 35 weeks. I didn't want to have them cut off (as happened to a friend). I put them back on when dd was about 9 months.

goodlifemummy · 25/10/2010 17:06

My last pg with twins they came off at 26 weeks - I developed pre-eclampsia, and am using them this time round as a comparison of swelling! 32 weeks now and still got them on - yay!!

PaulineMole · 25/10/2010 17:06

32 weeks or so.
Can't even get it over my knuckle now (40+1).

In my case I think this is due as much to cake consumption as water retention.

BertieBasset · 25/10/2010 17:07

about 24 weeks, but back on within about 6 weeks after the birth

BuckBuckMcFate · 25/10/2010 17:07

wmmc and soh, just curious, why did you wait 'til 9 months to put them back on?

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 25/10/2010 17:09

Because it took that long for the swelling/retention/bloatedness to go.

whomovedmychocolate · 25/10/2010 17:10

Because my fingers, like the rest of me were significantly lardier than they were pre-pregnancy.

BuckBuckMcFate · 25/10/2010 17:12

So you mean this could be a long term thing Shock

I have kept my rings on all the way with the other DC's.

I have also developed a 'trout pout' as part of my puffy face Shock

Have I been kidding myself that I will be back to normal in a few weeks??

whomovedmychocolate · 25/10/2010 17:14

Ah the trout pout (both the facial one and the other one - you may not have reached that bit yet Wink) will go within two weeks of delivery. I had PET with both and I could say most of the bloating was down to that, but frankly, no, it was cake related.

Yellowflowers · 25/10/2010 17:14

My wedding ring still okay - think my engagement ring may be a bit out of shape so going to take it to get it cleaned and made round again soon if that makes sense - maybe it will fit then. I don;t care if other people know I am married or not but I love having my wedding ring - sounds incredibly bleurgh but I do think of dh whenever I see it, so may insist on very cheap £20 big one from Argos if I have to take it off.

Buck, if you've got to 38wks with no probs then slight retention at the end shouldn't go on for 9 months. You'll probably be fine. Smile

PaulineMole · 25/10/2010 17:15

buck, I was shocked to hear the swelling doesn't go down straight away.

With DC1 I was all bump - no water retention whatsoever. This time my whole existence is pregnant and bloated.

Phew! Fat fingers crossed you're right SOH

I know exactly what you mean wmmc Grin That was a surprise when I went to the loo!

Quite enjoying have the plump lips (on my face!)of my youth again, only slightly spoilt by the fact that I have trout nose to accompany it.

kiwidreamer · 25/10/2010 18:36

Mine came off at around 28weeks with DS, more than likely cake related also. Didnt get to wear them again for a fair few months and notice now 2yrs on that my knuckles are wider than they used to be! I have a nice antique garnet ring that is too big at the moment but I did use that in lieu of a wedder, not that i was worried about judgemental old biddies it was just comforting not to panic each time I realised my ring was missing!

JetLi · 25/10/2010 18:43

Never came off here - no water retention I guess.
I did drink pints of water every day though - twas the only way to not be constipated Blush

gateacre1 · 25/10/2010 19:57

19 weeks
I woke up one morning with welts in my fingers and had to soak hands in cold water to get the rings off!
I also started to react to the metal too, my OH is really pleased that im suddenly 'allergic' to platinum and diamonds
ha ha he wishes!!

Dee78 · 25/10/2010 20:22

Rings came off first time at 20 weeks and only got them back on once DS was 18 months. I wore my wedding ring for a total of 3 months before I had to take it off again at 8 weeks pregnant this time! Mine also is too cake related though as I never got back to my pre-pregnancy weight before getting pregnant again this time.

debka · 25/10/2010 20:37

Mine came off at about 36 weeks but I bought a £1 stretchy toe ring from the chemist to wear instead- you would never have known, honestly, it looked ok!

KenDoddsDadsZombieDogsNotDead · 25/10/2010 20:40

After the birth! Fine up until then and afterwards it took a couple of weeks to get them back on.
