Hi all
I am a new mum-to-be and am concerned about the amount of weight I have gained (or not gained) so far in my pregnancy. I have eaten well - a healthy, well balanced diet - but have put on just under a stone and am now 34 weeks. I want to put on more but every day I get up and stand on the scales they are just not budging! I am quite a small frame and fairly active, but am really worried that the bubs is not growing as she should. According to the charts I am off the low scale. Does anyone else have any advice - has anyone else experienced similar but still had a healthy birthweight when the baby arrived?
Thanks

Amy

What does your MW say? Is your FH okay?

Maternal weight is not a good reflection of the baby's weight, which is why the NHS stopped regular weigh-ins years ago (now got the problem of people putting on too much though!). If your bump is the right size, then it just means that baby is taking more of your calories so you'll be losing weight elsewhere on your body.

Thanks for your reply japhrimel. I have a MW appointment this week so I will make sure I get them to give me a bit more attention and hopefully reassurance on this. I live in central london and to be honest don't feel like I have even seen my midwives much during my pregnancy - my few appointments have been very brief and they haven't weighed me. They have always measured the bump but it seems a very crude way of doing things..! Hopefully the baby is fine, just very neat in there. It's not easy this pregnancy business, is it?!

Measuring the FH/bump is a more accurate way of checking on baby's growth than weighing you. Your weight would only be checked if you raise it as an issue.
