38 weeks backache

For the last couple of days i have a been experiencing terrible backache. It started in my lower back and it worked its way up my back to just below my shoulders. Not only that the right hand side of my bump has started to become quite sore. Both the aches come at the same time and go at the same time. I dont seem to be having any contractions, however the top of my bump does seem to become tighter. Also today i have started to feel quite sick, on and off, i havent actually been sick though. Is this normal for 38 weeks? Or is this signs of labour starting? I have a midwife appointment tomorrow, just wanted some kind of peace of mind until then :)

I'm now 36 weeks and have started to get some of the same symptoms - except I get backache very low down, hip ache and a very sore stomache just to the left of my belly button. Again it all seems to come and go at the same time.

I was thinking that maybe this is to do with where Baby is lying? i.e. - if its back to back putting more pressure on my spine than if it is the other way. I can still feel a lot of movement so guess this could be the case?

I have also been told that the top of the bump become tighter is likely to be braxton hicks - your muscles gearing up for what is to come.

I'm sure someone who knows more than I will come on in a minute, but it doesn't sound like anything too abnormal!! Smile

well I think you're in labour Grin

You describe exactly what happened to me with dd1 - it wasn't as I expected at all, I felt no tightening in my bump... it was there and I could see the monitor showing it when I got to hospital, but I couldn't feel it at all.

How often are the pains coming, and are they regular? If so, it deffo sounds like labour, if you do a search on "back labour" you'll probably find loads of threads that describe what you're having.

Give the MW/hospital a ring and get yourself a baby, woman!!!

It doesnt seem to be regular at the moment, but it does keep coming and a bath hasnt helped! It seems to be every couple of hours at the moment. I have a planned c-section booked in as i had a emergency c-section with my first so i have no idea what labour feels like! Searching back labour now.... ooooo im getting excited :)

2 things spring to mind... labour or SPD. But that would have showed up long ago AFAIK so I think your in labour :o

Good Luck and congratulations

it'll happen.

It could be a while before it becomes established though so use the time to make sure that your hospital bag's packed, you've got arrangements for dc are up to date, put dp/dh on notice that you'll need him very soon and relax as much as you can!

Come back and let me know how you're getting on Smile

Thats exactly what im doing, my hubby is looking after my two year old as much as he can. I have checked my hospital bag, charged my mobile just in case! Also got my mum on standby for coming over to look after my daughter. I am enjoying being able to relax so much :) Im supposed to book into hospital on Tues and have c-section on weds but i will definately come back on to let you know :)
