Large Placenta and Large Baby

Hi,

Not pregnant, but TTC and have a 2 yo DS.

As much as I want another baby, I have to say I am DREADING being pregnant again, especially with a lively terrible-twos boy about!

I was so so ill during my first pregnancy, terrible morning sickness most of the way through and so exhausted and breathless from about 20wks that I couldn't go upstairs without having to sit down for 10mins afterwards.

When my DS was born, he was a big baby (9lbs 2oz) even though bump was very small! and the midwife was amazed by how long his cord was and how huge the placenta was.

I may be clutching at straws here, but I'm wondering if this may have had something to do with how vile I felt.

I vaguely remember a health visitor telling me that sometimes an over-efficient placenta can grow a big baby and make you feel ill, but you know what HVs are like for actually knowing anything that's TRUE. Hmm

Wondering if anyone else has had this, and whether subsequent pregnancies have been better.

Please reassure me that I might not be looking at nine months of hell again!

Thanks!

I had a big baby both times round, 9lb15 and 10lb7, apparently the placenta is likely to be around a third of the size of the baby so a big baby is likely to have a big placenta.

Like you I also had sickness really badly the 1st time, it was slightly more manageable the second time through a combination of rest and acupuncture.

By the way I am a health visitor so you may want to disregard all that I have said as untrue Grin
