Me too! So far I have tried hot curry and sex and no joy, and a sweep by the mw didn't do anything except hurt...guess it's pineapples next! Although I do think the old wives' tales are exactly that and babies just come when they want to...annoying for us though!

Mumcah · 24/10/2010 10:34

I tried 'everything' to get my labour going with my first, and from 38 weeks too.DD was 11 days late!
The 2nd time I did bugger all and DS was 3 days late.
If these things worked then no one would ever need to be induced for being post dates.

Also if people say 'such and such' worked for me how do they know the baby wouldn't come anyway?
Good luck,it is grim as every day over feels like a week!
When the baby is here you won't even think about it.
Please keep us updated!

Congratulations :o

I know it's hard, my DS was 6 days overdue and it really is frustrating. My best advise would be calm down and get as much sleep as you possibly can and maybe try and have a night out with your partner if you can before baby comes along because these are the first things that change DRASTICALLY when baby finally arrives.

But now I've said that I know fine well it's all easier said than done :o Only thing that worked for em was a hot curry, a walk and a sweep within a week but I guess that probably was just a coincedance as they do have to come out at some point :o

Hi, i asked a mw friend yesterday (who has 3 children her self) what she would reccomend as i was induced with my 2dc and im on my 3rd and would love to just go into natural labour.

She said she hand exspressed all 3 times for about an hour ish and all 3 babies where there with in hours, obviously i will wait till im dude but i will def be giving this ago.

Good luck ladies you can only but try

x

I'm +10 tomorrow and from just before my due date I've tried the raspberry leaf tablets (tried the tea last time which didn't work either!), pineapple, sex, nipple stimulation Blush and keeping really active with housework etc, but nothings worked and I'm being induced (2nd time) tomorrow!

xkatyx · 24/10/2010 18:18

Maybe try the hand exspressing? worth a go, she said you cant just do it for a while a good hour or so.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 24/10/2010 18:24

Nothing works.

Raspberry leaf is for strengthening the uterus, nowt to do with starting labour.

Pineapple for example has an enzyme in it that's associated with labour. To get enough of that enzyme into you in one go to replicate nature, you'd need at least 8 pineapples. In one go.

Sex. Again, no proof. Although statistically theres slightly more evidence of orally ingesting semen being linked to uterine contractions.

Honestly, the onset of labour is a hormonal thing that happens inside you when the baby is ready. Nothing affects that and nor would you want it to.

Pregnancy is 37-42 weeks. Please try and enjoy your time/relax. Your babies will be here so soon. Don't wish it away.

A couple of local farmers wives have told me their DH's took them off roading over the farm for a bumpy ride and thats triggered it within a few hours every time!

I don't have a farm or an off road vehicle so not an option when my time comes!

FrenchLimeBlossom · 24/10/2010 18:30

hello, i am now 10 days late and a friend recommended reflexology to get things started as it had worked for her.

might be worth a try if there's anyone local to you? I'm very much of the 'throw everything at it' school so did everything from acupuncture, raspberry leaf tea, reflexology, sex, walking, spicy food etc but i did feel different yesterday and today.

if it helps, I had a session on Friday night, then had a show yesterday evening and started having contractions in the night, been having them throughout the day today - not major yet, still about 1/2 hour apart but i'm told this is probably the start of labour. fingers crossed!

[ignoring for the time being the likelihood that i might have started labour anyway at this stage....]

best wishes getting your baby moving though!

thanks guys :D you just hear so many things and not sure if any of them actually ever work.

i lost my plug yesterday morning and then i drank castor oil around lunch time, i then had a sudden rush come over me at 6ish like i was going to throw up and had a pain through my belly. since that i was having mild contractions here and there and started to become more regular at 7ish so i layed down n eventually went to bed, still having them. woke up this morning and nothing. its so frustrating!

im contemplating going out on my brothers quad bike haha.

Katy, what is the hand exspress??
