Hi - can anyone recommend a Cough Medicine that is safe to use during Pregnancy? I have a horrid cold that is now going to my chest. Thanks.

hi, not sure but if you got to the chemist the pharmacist will be able to advise you - better still call them before you go to save an unnecessary trip in case you can't take anything.
hope you feel better x

I too have had a cold which is now developing into a lovely cough and sore throat.

I went to see pharmacist and they were very apologetic but said I couldn't have anything whatsoever without say so of gp. I have been surviving on hot honey and lemon drinks :(

I think you can only have glycerine based medicines (eg the ones you can give to babies, which IME are fairly ineffective). Honey and lemon, lots of steam (with some olbas oil or something to ease congestion) and lots of sleep is about all I can suggest.

Thanks All. Been having home made honey and lemon. Tried Olbas Oil last night but it was 2 years out of date and didn't smell very strong!! Feel better today, only sneezed about 50 times Smile

Boots do a glycerine and linctus (suitable for babies) and can be used in pg pretty ineffective though after first 5 mins.

venos cough medicine says that it is safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Initially i was told in Boots that it wasn't ok but when i pointed out that it said it was on the pamphlet inside, they checked with the pharmacist and she said it was ok.
